Well at least is LHW, and alot better that Murdock.

Good to see this kind of tune-up. Lets see how Ward performs.

I am expecting nothing short of another Ward knockout.

Sergey Kovalea is rematching Jean Pascal in Canada in early January.

The NSAC let Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. fight a 1-15 opponent in his 50th fight, back in 1986.

So I'm not really ready to give them an atta boy over this.
And then he fought 4 more times that year. It's not the same at all. Andre Ward will never have anywhere near the amount of fights Chavez had. A few bums here and there is irrelevant when you end your career with over 100 wins.
Ward needs to face a credible opponent soon or he will lose all credibility himself. He is an incredible talent and has accomplished a lot in his short career but he needs to start reestablishing himself among the elite fighters who are actively campaigning against more serious contenders.

The rumor is that Ward/Kovalev has been signed as part of a 3-fight deal.

Dont know if/when it will be confirmed officially, but if Ward announces his first opponent, then its likely that the deal is in place.

Ward could be P4P #1 by the end of next year.

          But so could Kovalev

Fair point, but Wards inactivity/injury troubles are well-documented.

I think its crazy that fight aint happening first, but Ward should not be pushed back for Stevenson.

Kovalev/Stevenson should happen next, Ward fights the winner..... but Ward will be ready in 2 fights and the situation is so unclear with Stevenson and Kovalev.

Kovalev/Stevenson should be next, but if not..... then Ward/Kovalev, and Stevenson fights the winner.

that's the problem with this ****** pre-contract deal between kovalev and ward... obviously neither fighter is going to be sweating about making fights before then because they know they already have something big planned in the future - and they especially don't want to risk taking a loss and killing the whole deal. it's clear that for kovalev-stevenson to get done there would need to be some serious negotiating and compromises made, but why would main events bother with that now?

i don't see why ward couldn't have just outright signed to fight kovalev in let's say march and squeezed in his three easy tune-ups before then, as is usually the case in these situations. why is he dragging his feet?

Thats a great point right there.....

But just a thought, how long has Stevenson/Kovalev been discussed ?

                  Taking that into consideration.....
..... is 10-12 months really a long time to wait for Ward/Kovalev ?

Especially considering the situation with Ward.

You may not like this..... but you HAVE to consider the fact that Ward has been inactive, and you also HAVE to consider the fact that he has just moved to 175..... he will not fast-track things and take shortcuts with his career simply for your entertainment buddy..... not with Kovalev looming.

I think you made a GREAT point, no question..... just look at the way the welters stood off each other because nobody wanted to risk losing that potential Mayweather payday.

I agree with you, but its about making that trade-off..... a GUARANTEED top-level fight which provides clarity..... vs possible mid-level matchups and potential upsets.

In general, I agree with your point that making fights ahead of time can make the landscape stale, for sure..... but in this case I dont see a problem.....
                  * Ward has been inactive
                  * Ward just moved to 175
                  * It is HIGHLY unlikely that this situation will affect the landscape at 175, they have had PLENTY of time to make the Kovalev/Stevenson fight.

I have never heard of a schedule like that, I think your expectations are a little harsh there.

From what I understand it is a 3-fight deal starting with Brand and ending with Kovalev..... so after Brand, Ward will have 1 more fight and then Kovalev..... which sounds perfect.
