I disagree with ppv being a dying model. The fights being put on ppv is whats dying. Mayweather vs Guerrero and Berto should've never been on PPV. Manny vs Rios and Algeri should've never been on ppv. Just like GGG vs Lemiuex should've never been on ppv.

Everybody wants to fight on ppv but don't realize that if you are barely a ppv fighter and you fighting a fighter who definitely shouldn't be on ppv the numbers are going to be in the tank.

PPV used to only be for super fights. Now people try to put any and every fight on ppv and the numbers for those anything ass fights reflect the opinions of the people. People are willing to pay for just about anything. That doesn't mean they are willing to pay for anything all of the time. Which boxing was trying do with the amount of ppv's recently.

GGG vs Lemiuex was a perfect fight for HBO's Championship boxing. It should've never sniffed ppv. Just because GGG is blooming late in his career doesn't mean it makes sense to rush him to ppv.

Put the fights on ppv that the fans demand and clamor for and the ppv numbers will positively reflect that the fans are getting what they asked for by supporting the event.

The days of promoters putting BS fights on ppv and telling the fans to like it are over. That is a great thing truthfully.

GGG is more of a diehard star than a casual star. A win over Cotto or Canelo will take him to that next level.

This fight didn't pass 200k PPV but #CottoVsCanelo will surpass the 1m mark and will do around 1.5m to 2m buys, if everybody support the PPV it prob do moree..

You know, I've been thinking about it and the more I consider it, I'm not convinced it does that many buys. I mean, I would love for Cotto-Canelo to do a milly or more but is there enough evidence to show that's what'll happen? Maybe we need to temper expectations a lil' bit.

I've been a fight fan for a long time. And 350K or so seems to be the max when you put on a card that strictly hardcore fans wanna see. When you have guys like Cotto, who's not really a crossover star. But, he's recognizable to casual fans. You can see the numbers creep up around 400K.

I think I remember Cotto-Margarito selling 525K in PPV. Not sure if that's accurate but close to it. What you're saying is dead-on though. His other bouts against fighters not named Mayweather or Pacquiao have hovered around 300K or below.

If true, it's less than what they were hoping for but right around where most fans expected it. It's two relatively unknown foreign fighters without any bad blood. Golovkin's likability may actually be working against him.

Comparing this fight to Floyd vs. Manny is downright ******ed. Not only were those 2 big names, one had a country behind him (manny) the other was fighting on his home turf.
But more important than that, Floyd vs. Manny was talked about for YEARS. I think if you took two B level fighters and discussed them for a few years in mainstream media, it would do 500k PPV buys.

I think it will do 600-750. Which is actually damn good but people are spoiled with those ridiculous 1.5-2M type numbers that Floyd was doing.

so because GGG fought a damn bum on ppv that means that ppv is dead? GGG's ppv bombed because he fought a no hoper......GGG is content on fighting bums, unfortunately people have access to watch bum fights on the internet for free. When GGG grows some balls to step up, his ppv numbers will too.

I think the opposite. Cotto and Canelo's last PPV's underperformed according to Bob and ODH (so you know when they admit that it had to be bad).

I was hoping this fight did in the neighborhood of 350k. IMO that would've been a good indicator of canelo/cotto doing really well. Now, i'm not so sure that it does more than 500-600k, not like that sucks either.

I think we've reached the point where PPV fights have got to be special. If as some suggest Wilder and Wlad goes to NBC, then the PPV model may have to go on hiatus for awhile.
