No, but he told Lalonde to fight him at 168

I agree with you in principle, I just dont think that you, me, or Golovkin, are going to be able to convince Cotto that catchweights are unnecessary today.

To be fair to Cotto, we have had years to cry about pointless and unnecessary catchweight abuse..... and Cotto has been on the receiving end himself.

If he was desperate for a payday or if the circumstance was the exact same as his quest to fight Froch/Chavez (pure money fights) he'd gladly come down a few pounds. But as it stands, he is a middleweight, Cotto/Canelo will hold a Middleweight title, and he will not accommodate either one with a catchweight agreement just so he gets paid.
Doesn't change the fact that when it came to Andre Ward, Gi Gi made himself look soft bro.

And yet in the post above you state that the UPPER limit defines the division.

        Confused ?

160 defines middleweight, and yet Canelo has never fought a middleweight opponent, and he comes in weighing 155.

Or does your latest theory only work when you need lil 153lb Cotto to be classified as a middleweight ?
154-160 defines a middleweight period....160 is the maximum you can weigh lol.....Ray Leonard weighed 158 when he beat marvin hagler.....its doesn't make him a light middleweight lol....how old are you...are 10 years old or something......you have a 6lb span which defines the middleweight divison and that's why you can weigh 154 or 160 and be a middleweight ...by the way cotto and canelo both fight 155 which makes them middleweight fighters lol

..... would require two completely different style camps.

i hate to break it to you, but Ward will be much stronger at 175 than he was weighing 172 whilst preparing to make 168.
The style of camp is also irrelevent. So are hairstyles, the colour of trunks, the music playing when a fighter walks to the ring, etc.

The weights are all what matter when defining which weight division a fight takes place in. That's it, bottom line.

And now I'm getting tired of talking with you again. This is like trying to explain long division to a child who can't count to ten.

            Yep, you did.....

It's 154.1 ounce and then your a middleweight..so it's not 155... Anything that weighs over 154 is middleweight....and if cotto or canelo want belts then they lose that extra pound in weight and make 154 and stop trying to alter the history of weight divisions ..then they don't have to face golovkin because there it the middleweights ...if not then they face golovkin as a middleweight

I'm not going to get into politics here that was not my intention, I was just wondering why would a GGG Fan think we would favor a Russian over a Mexican. But for the record my country is hated so much that we have millions of foreigners risking their lives daily to cross our borders to come live here. Sorry I couldn't help my self.

You are a very ignorant casual fan who knows very little about the sport.

You really cant understand the difference between cutting weight and adding muscle?

                      Two completely different camps.

Ward undertook a SMW camp for the Smith fight, their objective was to work DOWN to 168, so any additional muscle-mass over 168 would be detrimental to their follow-up camp...... which is why I told you that Ward did not even prepare to be the best 172lb'er on the planet, as he was working his way DOWN to 168..... training for LHW will be completely different and will involve a lot more strength work and a completely different diet.

You must be able to see the difference.
