surely you recognize that going down to 160 to fight the biggest draw in boxing history is different from going to 160 to fight gennady golovkin.

Great fighters move up through weight classes.

Gennady Golovkin is clearly not and never will be a great fighter plying his trade against no hopers in the wasteland that is 160.

His own fans don't think he's a great fighter. He'll go down in history as a decent middleweight beltholder. Probably below the likes of Jermain Taylor.

I give ward credit for the super six(even though he refused to travel)...but i think you're over rating his smw competition in the context of how it will look historically. If golovkin cleans out the mw division the names on his resume might look better over time. As far as ward not asking kovalev for any catchweight, let them start negotiating first. If he doesn't take tune ups at lhw, i wouldn't be surprised if he does ask for a catchweight.
