Comments Thread For: Lemieux Promises To Drop GGG, Says 'He's Only Human'

NEW YORK – According to Gennady Golovkin, he has never been knocked down as an amateur or professional boxer, neither during a fight nor a sparring session.

David Lemieux promised Wednesday to change that. The confident, powerful champion from Montreal said before the final press conference for their HBO Pay-Per-View main event Saturday night at Madison Square Garden that he expects to become the first fighter to knock down Golovkin.

I hope he does. The world needs to see how GGG deals with adversity on the big stage.

there is no question ggg is propped up by boxing world as this unstoppable almost mythic fighter. even though the guy has never faced top level competition people think hes already better then the greats like sugar ray robinson, hagler, hearns etc etc. Saturday is a test for ggg but it by no means proves anything. Lemiuex is by far his toughest opponent in the pros and that pretty much sums up his pro career. Imo he needs to fight ward its the best fight boxing has right now bar none. It would be such a huge fight I dont care what anyone says just look at any comment section on a ward ggg thread its filled no boxing fan would miss that fight.

My point is ggg is human hes not a god. He may go down as one of the best fighters ever but to me its no different then when people prop up any other over hyped fighter. GGG is the real deal dont get me wrong but cant we at least wait for him to prove it?

The problem is the best fight for ggg legacy by far is ward its not even close he beats ward hes number 1 p4p deserved or not and is a bonafid superstar. I just dont think he will do it which is a shame I get why he wont he can keep beating up guys at 160 class like lemieux and andy lee but god would i love to see 2 guys in their prime like ward and ggg fight it would be the real fight of our era not manny and pac

        Lemieux to test GGG

I agree. I think that Lemieux wil drop GGG. In fact, I think that he will win. The guy is ferocious and has no fear whatsoever of Golovkin. Of course, the question remains can Lemieux take GGG`s punches. We`ll find out in 2 days.

You do realize that you're showing just how GOOD GGG REALLY is?

If for him to be perceived by "legit" in your opinion- he would have to beat the "P4P #2"...... I mean.... You're clearly saying he's and and shoulders above and better then basically everybody in boxing.

On a site note: cleaning out a division means something, which he would do if he beats Lemieux and then Canelo. Lemieux doesn't suck, GGG is just so damn good.

So what, he lost a couple of fights when he was what..... Like 21 years old? Big deal. Dude is an explosive puncher and he's had plenty of time to improve his craft- there IS a thing called "improving" in sports, not just boxing. 2015 Lemieux would probably beat everyone in the MW division, so if GGG can put on an strong performance, that'll be considered an impressive performance by just about everyone who follows boxing besides thirsty Andre Ward die hards who just wan GGG to fight the "P4P #2" just so they can have hope of seeing him lose so they don't have to hear about him anymore.

GGG destroying all competion = his opponents suck

Almost anybody destroying all competion = they're just too damn good for anybody out there

Also "GGG is the real deal but can we at least prove it?"
            - you're proving it by saying he has to beat Ward as the only way he can "prove it." No other boxer In boxing today has those same stipulations by fans in order to gauge his quality.

Lemieux looks like he's undertaking a motivational course of some sort...

Lemieux will put up a great fight, that's for sure. I'm a GGG nuthugger but I can root for Lemieux if he pulls off an upset. I think it would be interesting to see.

Not even GGG is immortal to being KD/KO'd. All it takes it one solid shot to the chin.

Not to mention, he's getting up there in age, and after all the years of boxing he has been through, it will eventually catch up with him.

Even though you're usually a GGG hater, I can't disagree with much of what you said here. Well said.

I'd love to see a Ward vs GGG fight from a fan's perspective.. but that fight, especially at 168, is a career suicide for Golovkin.
-If he wins, he wont get any belts, probably wont make much money, and will DEFINITELY be ducked by everyone else. Overcoming a big weight difference against a great fighter would eliminate any doubts about his skill. No big name will ever fight him after that.
-If he loses, his career hits a snag, and he's already 33. By the time he recovers, he'll be ~35-36 and will be past his prime.
