Comments Thread For: Loeffler: We Can't Force Cotto or Canelo To Face GGG

Carson, California - One could make an argument that there has been no better job done with promoting a fighter in the last five years than what Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions, has accomplished with Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s).

Golovkin appeared on HBO for the first time in September of 2012 in a small arena from Verona, New York. Since then he has sold out venues in Southern California while growing his popularity in New York so much that in his second time at the big room in Madison Square Garden, he is expected to sell out his first pay-per-view bout.

Problem is, after their fight, Cotto/Canelo

Hightail it out of the MW division.

In a way, they are really playing fans.

They want you to believe they are fighting to be MW champs, but in reality, they are fighting to be guy who vacates or is stripped for refusing to make the rightful mandatory.

For those who say they are not MW, well gee, because I'm almost sure their fight is billed as a fight for the MW crown.

I get it, boxing is jacked in that way.

Fight for a lineal belts are a big deal, but to turn around and claim you are not really the Lineal champion is BS.

No matter how hard you Canelo & Cotto fans twist and turn, there is no way to make it sound like them having that belt but refusing to fight GGG makes sense.

I'll be just as happy to watch those pretenders get out of the way.

That's why neither has real shot at P4P.

we can't force little G to face Ward. and even though Ward would beat Kovalev we can't force him to face kovalev neither. just like we could'nt force kovalev to face stevenson.

im not a cotto or canelo fan, but cotto lost at 147 and 154...nothin in me wants to see him fight GGG...i dont care wat title is on the line..belts are not always jokes, but in this case cotto's is

and i've saw canelo lose to a WW...slice it how u may..tbe or w/e..the kid lost to a guy 20lbs lighter.....

these are not good fights..they are popularity fights for him and i'd rather see him challenge himself..bc it will be forgotten when we talk about his career if he doesnt fight ward

We can't Force CoWard to face anyone near top five that's near his own weight.

If Ward beats anyone it's by holding on tight and never letting go.

Ward will likely fight tune-ups until GGG clears out the MW, becomes the Lineal champ, racks up a string of PPV, some more endorsements, etc.

In the mean time, Ward will fight at 173, 173.5, 174, just below LHW, so when GGG moves up Ward can be like, "I was a SMW all along."

Can you tell me why GGG should first clean out the MW (especially of the two pretenders), and unify, break B-hops record?

Why in the world is taking a Ward fight make more sense than making himself a PPV star.

          This should be interesting.

Wow, I'm not sure if your saying Canelo and Cotto suck.

            That Ward comment isn't legit.

GGG jumping up to fight Ward would be ****** right now.(And horrible business, career, financial dicision)

He has PPV, he has the Lineal MW title coming, he has unification (which is rarely done). He has breaking b-hops record.

These feats matter much more than taking a fight with a guy 20 pounds heavier than him.

That's a fight he may take, but after he has done what he needs to at MW.

I get it, Cotto just isn't on GGG level, but he needs dealt with. He can't walk around as MW champ.ring mag has him ranked best MW.

Taking a risky fight with a guy who is 20 pounds heavier, that's not what you do while he has work.

Also, that WW that beat Canelo, was a few years older than GGG at the time.

GGG isn't running out of time. He has plenty of it.

Not to mention Ward could very well be doing something to make a fight like that worth it.

            He has Kovalev.

I think you have your wires crossed.....Stevenson ran to al haymon when he was told to face kovalev...hid under his skirt and begged uncle Al to save him......same as we can't force ward the catchweight King to face someone who weighs the same as him to fight him .....ward won't beat kovalev when they do face off

He doesn't need Ward to leave a great legacy on retirement. Sure, fighting Ward would improve his legacy, but not strictly necessary. I he moves up and gets a belt at SMW that will probably seal HOF.
