Comments Thread For: Wilder-Povetkin: Showtime Willing To Head To Russia

Stephen Espinoza, the Executive Vice President and General Manager for Showtime Sports, told krikya360.com that his network is certainly willing to travel to Russia for a fight between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34KOs) and mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21KOs).

Wilder was in action on Saturday night, when he headlined a Premier Boxing Champions on NBC broadcast. He stopped Johan Duhaupas in eleven rounds. The fight scored a knockout preliminary rating of 2.365 million. [Click Here To Read More]

surely there is too much money at stake for that. it would probably take wilder and haymon several years to recoup the money they would miss out on by ducking povetkin

Question is, will Wilder be willing to travel to Russia? That's far from home.

We have a guy that is about to fight his 4th time this year, and people are complaining? Hopefully he does the same next year 2 fights on Showtime and 2 on NBC and ESPN.

Wilder doesn't have a promoter. World of Boxing can be the promoter of the bout. Ryabinski has talked about staying fights in America in the past. They put on an awesome show. I would love to see them promote a show here with that Russian atmosphere. And these Russians in America would pay big money to see the fight.

I have a question. The WBC originally called for negotiations to begin in October. After that Povetkin signed a fight for November. Could Wilder get one more fight or does he have to wait for the results of Povetkin's next fight?
