Based on the fact that Hopkins always struggles with the Elite fights.

This is more insulting than asking about Toney/GGG. Although Hopkins started slow, he was possibly the only fighter who gave a young Jones trouble with his skill set. Hopkins power at middleweight is often underrated along with his skill. Hopkins would toy with Golovkin!! Period, you think other wise... Your obviously just a fan boy who doesn't know sh** about boxing!

Bernard winning this fight would be dependent on him shutting down GGG's offense, because Bernard was neither a big puncher nor a high volume guy. Golovkin doesn't fight like Trinidad. Tito was the smaller man and didn't handle the rough house tactics Hopkins uses very well. Golovkin includes clinch/wrestling into his training.
Haven't watched any Young Hopkins have you!!! Golovkin is not a high volume puncher, nor does he obtain the speed that was Hopkins biggest issue. A prime Hopkins had speed, Power, skills and the chin that was never shook at middleweight... Outside of Mercado who he later devastated in the rematch of the draw.

so in your book ggg (with ZERO quality wins) is elite?

You know GGG is a hell of a fighter when his haters want him to fight Toney and Hopkins on the same morning. I voted a draw. I won't put a loss on the record of either of these two great middleweights even in a fantasy fight.

Have to favor Hopkins but I don't think its Impossible for GGG to win this one.
                  VERY unlikely though

I've seen all of Hopkins old fights, and he was a much funner fighter back then (Johnson, Council, Brown), but that's the version of Nard that'd have the least success with Golovkin.

You need to go back and watch Hopkins/Echols I. He could be hurt by a legit puncher but he didn't face too many during his MW run outside of Echols and Trinidad. Bernard was never a big puncher himself, so it's a question on how he would keep Golovkin off him. He could throw some hard pot shots and maybe break Golovkin down over the distance, but he'd be taking damage.

I never said Golovkin was high volume, but he is pressure with power & precision. And if Nard tried to clinch and wrestle he'd be getting some nasty shots on his hips and body (like he likes to dish out but with less effect). It'd be an awesome fight either way.

In his prime I would definitely favor Hopkins.
