Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Eyes Cotto-Canelo vs. Golovkin-Lemieux

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is going to end the year in a very big way.

The two biggest stars in his stable, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and David Lemieux, are going to be involved in major HBO pay-per-view matchups.

Canelo will challenge Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight title, likely on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Lemieux will stake his IBF title against Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, who has the WBA/IBO titles, in a unification clash on October 17th at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Except that Cotto will never face Golovkin. That should be obvious to all by now.

Canelo would face Golovkin, Cotto wouldn't. Do not be misled by Cotto's recent wins (a shot Martinez, an unknown in Rodriguez, and a weight-drained Geale). This is the same Cotto that lost to Margarito, Pac, Mayweather, and Trout. Canelo via TKO 10th or 11th.

Ideal scenario here: Winner fights winner, loser fights loser.

I guess De LA Hoya forgot to mention that Canelo will demand a 155 cw vs GGG
