He and my uncles drinking rum and beer and me shouting and yelling along with them. Boxing has always been special to me.

I boxed myself as an amateur, at MW and LHW, and had offers to turn pro when I quit at age 24 after realising I was never going to be good enough to box for England, though I came very close in my last amateur season. I had stamina, but was a slow starter. Not good for 3 3min rounds. I didn't turn pro beacause I had a good job, nice flat next to a park that I shared with my girlfriend, great social life back then, and I didn't want to give them up and relocate.

I like other boxers as well as GGG and Kovalev. The reason I spend so much time defending them here is because both, especially GGG, get so much unfair and biased criticism from people from people who hate them for reasons which have nothing to do with their merit, or otherwise, as boxers.
Kovalev and GGG don't get unfairly crcriticized. They get their ballz unfairly massaged for the most part. GGG moreso than Kovalev.

I'm from the UK, and most of my favourite boxers down the years have been British. Most of them ended up losing to US, Mexican fighters if they got far enough to challenge for world titles, or lost their title soon after winning it.

Nobody likes to see their favourite fighters lose. But, if you have been a fan all your life, like me, it's something you get used to.

I've never called Ward a duck or a coward for wanting to fight GGG instead of moving up for Kovalev. All I've done is point out the hypocrisy and bias of people calling GGG a duck and a coward for wanting Cotto or Canelo instead of moving up for Ward, and ignoring the fact that Ward is following the exact same policy himself.

What's good for the goose should be good for the gander. And neither a goose nor a gander is a duck.

@SugarRaRobinson, for sure HBO was happy when Ward KO'd Dawson.

But if he steps up to Kovalev, will he resurrect the clinch from his toolbox?

Team Kovalev will prepare for it. I predict Sergey will fight at long range (like he did against BHop); and Kathy Duva will do her best to secure a referee who's got enough balls to actually penalize a fighter for blatant holding.

Difference is that Smith was absolute trash. Muhammedy was mandatory and Monroe was ages above Smith.
