First of all, Manny and Joe (Byrd's Father) know each other very well. Chris was in the process of severing ties with King, making Byrd and his IBF title with no strings attached a MUCH more attractive fight than Brewster and his WBO and King with the options demands. King is a nightmare to deal with if he stands to lose $$ if his fighter loses. This is WELL documented.

As for Wlad not fighting Sanders, well, sure I would have liked him to. But he took time off after the Sanders fight to regroup, got a couple of warm-up KO wins behind him, and then the HW picture looked like this- Sanders and Vitali were WBC #1 and #2 and Wlad and Brewster were WBO #1 and #2. So Wlad's option for a belt was not with Sanders but with Brewster- the fight he took.

Lennox had to fight McCall and Rahman in rematches, because they stood between him and the belts. Wlad has always gone after the best fighters and the titles available to him, with the exception of choosing Byrd over Brewster, but that was a logical choice that I agree with 1000%.

im just curious about one thing. Brewster just defended his title against lyko, it was not his mandatory. therefore i am assuming that wlad would not necessarily have been able to secure a fight with brewster this april as he did with Byrd as a result of Brewster not being required to fight his mandatory anytime soon. its reasonable to assume that if wlad had tried to negotiate with brewster he could have backed out and fought lyakovich anyhow with no reprecussion, and may have possibly cost wlad a chance to negotiate a fight with Byrd (that byrd clearly wanted) in the process. im not exactly sure how mandatories are enforced or when the next time brewster was due to fight his so please correct me if i am wrong.

to me it seemed like neither brewster or klitshko wanted the fight just yet.

WBO actually prohibits immediate rematches! Sanders stepped down after Brewster was named his mandatory opponent. Sanders preferred a big money fight with Vitaliy rather than small money fight with Brewster, who was unknown at the time. This resulted in Wlad and Lamon fighting for the WBO title later.

He always talks trash like this, its a bit like the Tyson factor. He don't care if he comes across racist, ***ist, ageist or any other kind of ist. As long as he shocks, feels he's coming across like a bad Ass. Look how much attention Tyson got in the second half of his career being this way. A lot of people tuned in just to see what he was gonna do or say next.

"Rahman is a real fighter; we ain't like these Germans and Russians you all trying to build up."

"We Afro-Americans... we ain't scared to fight nobody."

"You keep trying to build up the Great White Hype, it's not gonna happen"

"You all can stop all that"

"There isn't going to be a white heavyweight champ, unless it's in Europe... and that's real"

He mentions the Klitchkos and Valuev. Rahman is heard laughing in the background along with most of the ***** crowd who won't stand up to these de****ably racist comments.
i'm waiting for toney vs klitscho!

I wanna see GIANT Valuev knock Toney out of the ring now.

I used to like Toney and the fun way he ran his mouth, but this really is veryyy low and wrong.

Just imagine a white boxer talkin like this from the other side, like a Klitshko saying "black heavyweights are no good and will never win anything"
WOWWW, that would really stirr alot of heat in and out of the boxing world now wouldnt it...

buttt, Toney runs his mouth like that and its no big deal. Not cool.
