Comments Thread For: Duva Says Kovalev-Ward Will Happen, Question of When

Even if a fight between the two best light heavyweights is no closer to happening, boxing fans may still be able to look forward to a clash someday between three-belt 175-pound titleholder Sergey Kovalev and 168-pound champion Andre Ward.

Kathy Duva of Main Events, which promotes Kovalev, sounded optimistic about that match being made.

Kathy Duva is adopting the promotional style that Bob Arum has used for the last five years -- "i am negotiating with Mayweather's people. Buy Pacquaio's next PPV and I promise the fight after that will be against Mayweather."

gotta hype up the mohammadi fight somehow.

I haven't heard much from Ward regarding a Kovalev fight, seems it's all Duva doing the talking. Last year Ward's stance on Kovalev was that he wasn't interested: "If I beat Kovalev, then what?" And “I don’t see where there are the money fights at 175, and again, I think that’s the misconception that -- where are the money fights at 175??Ward told The Fight Network. “They’re not there.?Perhaps that's all changed now but again it seems like this all coming from Duva. Wishful thinking? Perhaps.

There are no money fights for Ward at any weight!

When he made that comment it was before Chavez lost and that was his "big money fight" that he wanted really bad at 168 pounds. And there was always a potential Froch rematch lingering around but that's gone now too. So maybe he's changed his tune as Golovkin is really the only big fight at 168 (164?) but it's also no PPV which was his reason against fighting Kovalev last year so who knows.

Looks like Duva and Kov are getting attention for the Mohammedi fight by mention Pascal and now this.

I can see her reading the TR handbook like John Amos reading the McDonalds book in coming to America.

I really wanted Kov to fight Stevenson next but it's not going to happen.

Looks like the downside to Floyd/Manny selling so much is now every big fight is going to marinate longer than us diehards are used to with the hopes sales will escalate.

I could have sworn someone from Ward's side mentioned interest in the fight recently. Maybe I'm wrong.

                  That was pre-Hopkins/Pascal.

But yeah, they're definitely trying to sell the fight by taking away focus from the actual fight. Ticket sales are bombing.

Everytime I see Kathy Duva's name I feel the urge to **** punch her daughter for her annoying twitter account.

Having said that I'll take the over on this fight happening by Dec. 31 of this year. 1)I don't think Ward will move up. 2)In the event he does move up, based on his most recent opposition, I'm thinking its unlikely he'd wanna jump right into a fight with Kovalev.

Its definitely an interesting fight that I hope we get to see at some point.
