Comments Thread For: Terence Crawford's Manager Wants Him More Active

Currently Terence Crawford is doing missionary work with his church in Africa. Soon, he'll return and get back to his day job as a boxer. The standout, who just moved up to the junior welterweight class by stopping Thomas Dulorme on April 18th, is slated to return on November 7th according to his manager Cameron Dunkin.

Which means that it looks like he'll only be in the ring twice in 2015, which doesn't satisfy Dunkin.

top rank are doing the same with lomachenko too. i don't like it. i thought golovkin and kovalev had lately demonstrated how beneficial it is for top fighters to fight regularly

Lomachenko had injuries, otherwise I think he would've been more active this year. With Crawford I think TR wants to hord the Omaha site too much. I'd like to see him at 3-4 fights per year.

I thought it had more to do with HBO than TR.

Arum keeps talking about having him fight outside Omaha...but they probably need a significant fight/opponent to do that.

Finding opponents is going to be a problem for Crawford. Arum don't have anybody else to match him up with currently with Top Rank especially with Vargas moving up.

When Oscar was asked about Matthysse vs Terrance Crawford, he really did not sound interested and wanted to match Matthysse up with a bigger name.

I'm sick of these fighters only fighting two times per year, plus other times only once a year. What complete BS, at least make it 3 fights per year.

Golovkin and Kovalev are showing the boxing world how to do things, fighting 3 or 4 times a year. Roman Gonzalez is looking to do the same thing. Plus Deontay Wilder has spoke of doing the same.

I don't like what Top Rank is doing here. They should be keeping Crawford and Lomachenko more active. Fighting 3 or 4 times a year (preferably 4). They need to start building them up. It will be more difficult for Crawford to find opponents at 140, but Lomachenko has a lot of names he can choose at 126 or 130 (Walters, Vetyeka, Uchiyama, Miura to name a few).

HBO lowered its boxing budget significantly when Herschman took over. They have signed WLad, Kov, GGG, Canelo to multi fight deals. They paid part of Manny's siging bonus.

They may just not have or not want to put more resources into boxing this year. As such, I expect Crawford and Lomachenko to fight only 3 times a year unless TR puts them on a Spike TV card.

Soto, Vargas/Bradley winner, Herrera/Lundy winner, Algeri, Matthysse, Ruslan, Pagara, Cuenca/Yang winner, Redkach, Bennett, Di Rocco, Imam.

I'm hoping he's capable of fighting 4 times next year if he can't get a notable opponent. He needs all the exposure he can get.

Ideally, I would like to see him face some lesser-known WBO-ranked opponent, followed by Ruslan in 2015. In 2016, match him against Herrera/Lundy, Cuenca/Yang and Matthysse.
