Without ripping on Wilder for the fun of it, let's take a look at this for real...

Wilder is much longer than Povetkin and very fast. He has a good jab and a right despite the somewhat unco windmilling, he is a fast starter and knows also when to hold back when he is in with a tougher opponent than his usual bum run.

And, even though I feel his power has been exposed somewhat, he still hits plenty hard enough to atleast hurt Povetkin.

However, Povetkin has enough fundamental skills to hold his own out of range of Wilder and minimise or avoid most of the stuff Wilder might assault him with. Povetkin also has such a hard chin that in the event he cops some flush big stuff from Wilder he is not going to be put away, or even put down in my opinion, by what Wilder has.

But Povetkin is more than just an all-round boxer, his relentless aggression and profession of closing the gap will easily breach the Wilder defence or counter the Wilder assault. Once inside, Wilder will have a really hard time getting the Russian attack dog off of him. Povetkin's variety of high and low stuff will bewilder the lanky ostritch who will be both put WAY off balance and be badly hurt by the brutal and savage power shots of Alexander which will bust ribs and abdominal organs in the wasp body and shatter glass in the tiny head of Wilder.

Some Wilder proponents will assert that he will use his length to keep the Russian at bay and outbox him from the outside. Problem is, Povetkin is not Stiverne and he is not sick. He exhibits far better defence and movement than Stiverne did "in that fight" and far better counterpunching skills than Stiverne, again "in that fight". What Povetkin does always better than Stiverne also is apply constant pressure and workrate, he is ALWAYS boxing! And always pressing the action, not carelessly like a bum rusher (ala Frazier style) but calculatedly. Wilder has never been in with such a hard punching, hard chinned fighter of such skill, pressure and relentlessness.

There is another angle which shatters the myth that Wilder could keep Povetkin at the end of straight shots... WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO COULD NOT DO IT TO POVETKIN! Wladimir is 2ce as powerful, 5 times more skilful, much faster and with far better timing than the best Wilder could produce, and is about 3 times stronger also and 20lbs heavier. Yet even HE couldn't keep the guy at bay! Wilder has no hope, just LOOK at those chicken legs!

My take is Povetkin will weather the early Wilder and crumble the big ostrich by the first half of the fight.

I also think it will be all Povetkin after the 2nd or 3rd until the end comes swiftly and brutally.

Wilder won't have the reputation of a true champion until he fights this guy.
I think Vegas will about have this as a pickem. One of the things that Wilder has displayed is that he's very active. He threw double the punches of both stiverne and Molina. And landed at a higher %. Povetkins main asset is his activity level but man anyone who has ever sparred or fought someone with that reach advantage and height advantage knows it is exhausting and discouraging. Especially when they're jabbing your face off.

I just think Povetkin is going to tire quickly trying to get inside Wilder and Wilder will eventually wear him down for the finish or UD..

It's gonna be a interesting fight no doubt, but I feel Povetkin will get the upper hand later in the rounds. If Wilder beats Povetkin, not only will 80% of his doubters stop doubting him... but he'll get a whole new fan base
yea,,,wilder deserves alot of praise if he beats povetkin. povetkin has that tremendous amateur background and fought much better pro opposition than wilder so he should be the solid favorite imo

If Wilder DOES beat Povetkin, for sure.. He would have proved himself beyond any doubt!!

^THIS is why he has to+SHOULD WANT TO fight him!!

He has shown guts taking on Stiverne after he beat Arreola. It's not his fault the questions didn't get answered.

But that's why he has to do it again. Only this time his opponent is a lot better.

Wilder is trying to avoid this fight already.

Before the Broner-Porter fight he was talking about how he can't wait to beat Povetkin in Moscow. The fight will happen..
