    Middleweight contender Willie Monroe Jr. wants people to stop pushing for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) to fight Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).

    Following Mayweather's WBO/WBA/WBC welterweight unification win over Manny Pacquiao, more and more people started calling for a fight between him and Golovkin, who holds the WBA/IBO titles at middleweight. Mayweather also holds the WBC/WBA titles at junior middleweight, but hasn't made a defense in that division since September 2013.

    Monroe says Mayweather, who is 38-years-old and wants to retire after one more fight, has done more than enough in the sport of boxing and there should be no reason for him to move up for a fight with Golovkin.

    No one is disagreeing with the fact that Mayweather has done enough to be considered an ATG. No one disagrees with the fact that he could retire today.

    What does that have to do with pushing a GGG fight? People push the fights that they would be excited to see, and that happens to be one I'd love to see.

      I just realised now how much Mayweather done for the sport but we're all excited to see him do more. Monroe is right, Mayweather shouldn't go out against someone this big at this time. It's a bit too late.

          It's not a fair fight. Mayweather hos nothing to keep GGG off him. I don't get why people wan't to see this so much. I mean hey I would like to see floyd lose too to see him eat some humble pie but I don't wan't to see him lose to a guy that is just going to overpower him by size and strength and where there is high chance of someone getting injured bad.

              Floyd is among the reasons boxing is in the pits and his reign coincides with boxing being in the pits

              The most visible fighter being a boring fighter and degenerate person means that even though he can cut himself huge checks (like any champion in any sport) public interest in the sport itself is low

                Exactly what I think, I mean would GGG fans want to see him in the ring with Beterbiev at 175? No probably not. Floyd has gone up in weight as far as he can and I don't think Golovkin would be healthy at 154 either so its not a realistic fight. And don't tell me otherwise, Dawson said he could make 168 no problem, De la Hoya said he could make 147 no problem. Lol Shawn Porter saying he can do 144 right now but if he gets whooped you know the drill.
