Comments Thread For: Pacquiao Admits Retirement Near, But Wants Rematch

As previously reported, eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao made a low-key return to the Philippines on Wednesday after losing his mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather and said retirement was drawing closer as he recovers from shoulder surgery.

A smiling Pacquiao, his right arm supported by a black sling, told reporters he hadn't yet decided on his future after his May 2 defeat by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

"I will focus first on healing my shoulder. After that, I will announce continuing my career or announcing retirement," Pacquiao said. "I'm not saying I am going to retire, but it's near. I'm already 36, turning 37 this December."

A rematch would just be even more one sided. If Manny truly aggravated a shoulder injury which needed surgery he is going to have even less movement next year, plus he'll be a year older and inactive.

Floyd only performs better in rematches and I'm sure he has Manny's rhythm figured out by now. If the first fight was 9 to 3 the rematch will be 11 to 1.

At 37 years of age, limited mobility in one arm, inactive for a year, and being the smaller man having lost the first fight... Manny would have little to no chance in the rematch.

He probably should retire but you can't blame him for wanting to cash out on a rematch, it would still sell at least 2 million ppv's.

He's even blaming Jinkee for not wanting to spend money on his political career. When's this coward going to take any responsibility for anything.

Plenty of good fights out there, but fights we just know won't get made and that sucks.

Anybody who thinks or believes Manny will be 100% in the rematch is drinking that Kool-Aid spiked with rum, tequila, or vodka, or all three.

A 100% Manny will be expected to be much more aggressive and to knock Floyd out, and win the fight.

                    That's a very tall order.

In a rematch, Manny will likely just show up to collect that tax payment check and retire as the loser.
