Very strange to see a thread full of such sound, insightful comments for a change!
To recap, the fight was an absolute, total bore. Those that claim it to be a masterclass and a work of art are redefining boxing. This is probably why MMA is growing faster than boxing, even though boxing still dominates. The younger population wants to see action, engagement. In UFC, the guy could also win by points by tapping the head and going for a jog. But would he survive the audience when he exits the ring?
Fact is, Floyd wins by avoiding engagement, killing the action. You can never have any bit of sustained action with a Floyd fight. It's not that he is that good. It's that he works on AVOIDING it!
Boxing allows him to run and allows him to hold. So, how can he be forced to engage? Sugar Ray "embarrassed" Duran this same way in the second fight. People claim Sugar Ray was dominating that fight. Really? How badly did he hurt Duran? Those taps and bolo shots caused serious damage? Maybe to his hairdo!
In a post fight interview, Ariza claim that Manny was to blame for the fight being so unattractive. They expected Manny to be a whole lot more energetic and aggressive. In effect, what is he saying? This is like picking a dull b*tch as your star and then employing a hot b*tch as a co star to *** up the picture.
Floyd clearly won this fight, based on how boxing is currently scored. Guys in the know saw this as a cakewalk because they knew what Floyd was doing and that Manny could not catch him. Young fighters like Algieri are operating with the same formula. How to save boxing from this ****?
Something needs to be said for a fighter pressing for action and penalties for a fighter avoiding engagement. What business do you have to run to the other side of the ring when a fighter is right in front of you? And isn't holding illegal? If the scoring system is not changed to penalize fighters that deliberately avoid action then we will have more fantastically explosive stars like Floyd dominating boxing. Klitsko too for that matter!

I'll start by saying that I feel Floyd won the fight. I will also say that judges tend to be a bit generous when it comes to Floyd and give him more credit than he deserves.
As stated in another thread, I gave Pac 3 clear rounds with a few swing rounds in there that could have went either way. There were a few rounds where Pac landed the much harder blows but judges would score it for Floyd for landing touching shots that had no effect on Pac.

Depending on the condition of the fighters, yes, Pacquiao could probably beat Mayweather if they fought a second or third time.
But it would just be a close decision win either way, never a knockout.
For me this match-up is boring and I'm more interested in other fights like Kovalev vs. Stevenson.

Kovalev, Stevenson, Lomachenko, Walters, I wish we could just start talking about these guys and leave Mayweather-Pacquiao in the past.

* Ring Generalship
* Clean Punching

Judges only have to like the "look" of one fighter better in any given round.

Pacquiao starting slow didn't help, it gave them the early narrative to run with. For example, if Manny's big round 4 & round 6 came in 1 and 3 the commentary would have followed a different path.
Anyhow, I scored it 7-5 on the night, but ultimately as the foreign B-side fighting in the A-side's backyard you really have to take it off the "champion" to win and Manny didn't do enough.

You can add in Crawford, Thurman, GGG, Ward, Wilder, Canelo, Frampton ...
Its time for some of these guys to start stepping up and daring to be great. There's a big pile of money just waiting to be given to boxings next superstars.
