Comments Thread For: Golovkin’s Promoter: Cotto Seeking Step-Aside Deal

Miguel Cotto, the middleweight champion and World Boxing Council titleholder, has a dangerous mandatory challenger in Gennady Golovkin — the consensus top fighter at 160, and a man who holds another major world title.

The WBC issued Cottp an exception, ostensibly when a bout with Canelo Alvarez was on the horizon. That’s not happening, but the WBC will still allow Cotto to face Daniel Geale on June 6 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

If Cotto wants to go on to face Canelo next without losing his world title, then they’ll need to make a deal with Golovkin’s team. [Click Here To Read More]

Cotto would drop the belt when it's all said and done.

Golovkins team shouldn't back down like some B rate mandatory. Either cotto fights GGG,or he vacates and he can have his little fight with canelo. Enough acting like GGG doesnt exist!

Cotto vs Canelo without a belt on the line is just as appealing, just vacate and GGG will have to move up, thst way we get to see him in competitive fights too, I don't get why he loiters around the division beating junior middles at 175 come fight night.

No no no, don't take step aside money. If you do, I don't want to hear a word from them b*tching about Cotto not fighting Golovkin.

These WBC mandatory positions turning out to be pretty worthless.

Step aside money and a signed agreement to fight GGG next? Sounds good to me

I'd be fine with this situation.

Canelo will beat Cotto and lets be honest. We only want the Cotto fight so GGG can finish his goal of becoming Undisputed.

Nobody really wants to see Cotto brutalized, it would be horrible for Cotto, the viewers, and his family.
