Comments Thread For: Wilder Says Klitschko Bout Can Happen, Despite Politics

There’s a lot that can get in the way of a fight between heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who has three of the major sanctioning body belts, and Deontay Wilder, who has the fourth.

For one, they each have mandatory defenses due and opponents who would want shots at the title and the commensurate paydays. Then there are network and promotional allegiances; Klitschko has contracts overseas in Europe and is working with HBO, while Wilder is with Al Haymon and his Premier Boxing Champions venture on a number of other networks.

Wilder remains optimistic, while understanding what it’ll take.

I don't see Haymon having an issue working with HBO if they put the money up like Showtime. HBO have basically said they only want the top fights, Wilder vs Klitschko is exactly that. Wilder needs to face Klitschko before Povetkin is mandated, that fight is way too dangerous for the young American to take if he really wants to unify. Klitschko will be fighting Fury September time, a Wilder vs Briggs fight if Briggs can get a ranking in time would be an entertaining build up, yet I suspect anti climatic fight itself.

The thing with Wlad and HBO is Wlad doesn't really need HBO, they have left Wlad out in the cold plenty in his career even though he has been mostly an HBO guy.

Now I think if he felt HBO was helping the fight happen he would want it on HBO, but I think if he felt there was shenanigans preventing the fight Wlad is not just dancing to their tune.

So I think the fight happens no matter what (although maybe not as soon as the fans want), and a lot of that does have to do with Wlad and his stature.

Wilder should let Wlad get a little bit older before he fights him. He still needs to refine his skills a bit more. Wilder can definitely crack that china.

Good post. I too kinda share this belief.

I think Wlad is using HBO to put himself in the shop window to adhere himself to American fight fans, in turn which will put more pressure on Wilder to accept his unification offer. The fans will demand it, undoubtedly.

I'd be happy to see Wlad versus Briggs if it helped towards getting a shot at the WBC. Fury can wait, he has made it known he will duck Wlad for a bigger paying fight through his handlers, I also don't see a problem with the WBO delaying the mandatory a little while longer as they'll seek to profit from a unification and the following title defence too, Wlad always pays all the bodies as he defends every title each mandatory.

I'm just desperate to see the him fight for the WBC as soon as possible, if that means fighting Fury next whilst Wilder deals with Briggs I'm all for that. Personally I don't wanna see Wilder vs Fury before Wlad has dealt with them both, that is the greedy part of me wanting him to take their 0 cherry first lol.

I presume this must refer to Fury saying he would fight Wilder before Wlad if he got a good enough offer for it. But that's not going to happen.
