Haymon is spreading around his fighters to all the networks hoping that 2 years from now, someone will sign a tv deal...

Commercials and such are not really important now to the endgame....

Having strong ratings in key demographics are what haymon is after..
Or he needs to figure out how to exploit the internet for a profit, if he can get people paying him direct for his content over the internet that cuts out the middleman.

Not that such a thing would be simpler or come at the expense or before the TV deals but that would be another way to skin the cat.

And television networks will give him a deal with no advertisers in place for them to make money from? Are TV networks in the charity business now? Networks make money from advertising. No advertisers willing to buy spots, no money coming in. Demographics are important because they bring in the advertisers. But you still need the advertisers. Demographics alone do not pay you money.

You're right, but the PBC series makes no sense without ranking and belts.

If people are watching sport they're going to want to know who the best is, and who the main contenders are. All sports need that storyline to keep people interested.

Good point.... I think his game plan if all goes well is to land a tv deal similar to ufc and fox or WWE and USA,, and then the big ppv type fights, he will eventually have a streaming service much like how WWE has done with their major events..

Thats years away, and probably the next phase of his plan..

He needs to land the TV deal in 2 years... Thats the lynchpin of this whole deal

Al haymon has already paid for the timeslots...

Now what is better long term... airing pepsi commercials now between rounds or introducing and highlighting upcoming fights/fighter...

Eventually he will focus on Ads, but not now...

His whole goal is to create brand awareness for PBC and its fighters..

Casuals fans don't know anyone besides floyd and manny
and even then they call them floyd MERRIweather, and manny pacCOW
Most can't even get the names right, let alone know who danny garcia, thurman etc are....

I do agree there the TV money is key to the whole thing. With him spreading it out so much giving everyone a bit of a taste, I have to think someone will want to pony up because it is live sports and unlike other form of entertainment people like to watch their sports live. Not to mention CBS, NBC and ABC all have sports networks that need more sports.

                Excellent post....

your dead on... live sports programming is in huge demand because its the one thing people won't DVR and record and then fast forward thru commercials..
People 99% of the time will watch sports live, which is different than say walking dead or a reality show

I'm not entirely convinced Haymon is even trying to control boxing, if he is he will very likely fail. I think he is simply trying to gain control of the next few big (American) stars and probably cash in on them when/if they become PPV stars as he will be both the manager and promoter (unofficially). The PBC belts won't replace the sanctioning bodies belts and they probably aren't meant to.

Although I don't like it, it's already got to a point where there are so many belts that people make their own judgement on who they think is the best in a division or what title holds weight, so **** it.

The main concern for me is with all the belts hanging around it's really confusing and misleading for casual fans, I think even the hardcore fans can get confused at times.

I disagree.... Boxing has been resting on its laurels for decades now... Haymon is shrewd, saw an opening, and is going for it big time...

Will he succeed, the jury is out, but if he follows the WWE and UFC blueprint, then i like his chances a lot better...

The one advantage he has is that his brand will work like a well oiled machine in harmony and it will be impossible to get the sanctioning bodies and other promoters to work together long term..

Back when WWE starting taking over in the 80s, the old school territories banded together (crockett, AWA, NWA, etc) and did the SuperClash cards but couldn't sustain anything because there was too many chiefs and not enough indians...
