    According to Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. eventually succumbed to the extreme pressure from the fans - who were demanding that he fight WBO champion Manny Pacquiao (who Roach trains) on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

    Before the two fighters finally reached a deal in February, there were rumors of Mayweather potentially facing Miguel Cotto or Amir Khan. In the past, Mayweather selected opponents and at best there was minor backlash from the fans. Not this time. Thousands of fans took to the social networks and shot down any rumored opponent who wasn't named Pacquiao.

      Pride and arrogance

      I never really bought into the whole, "Floyd is ducking Manny" argument. Floyd offered a few times and the fight fell apart. To lay all the blame on Floyd is just contrary to the facts, especially when Arum himself says that he "didn't understand drug testing" enough to agree to the fight.

      I think what is more likely is that Floyd is just too full of hubris to chase the fight or admit that he cannot get it made. Floyd wants people to come up and kiss his ass for a fight, and Manny and Arum just refuse to do that. Who can blame them really, especially when they believe that Floyd doesn't want the fight. Manny was making a ton of money, well respected and they seemed to relish the image of Manny being the fighter that Floyd is scared to face.

        roach is a character, he was on video saying they were responsible for the fight not happening in 09 now this, none of these men are scared of eachother it was all business and politicts. If pac didnt have arum on his side he would have took that test with no issues in 2009, it was arum who told himt to say all that scared of needles sht, arum wanted to make that money before making this fight. this worked in floyds favor as well.

            I think Floyd just wanted Manny/Arum to kiss his ass out of jealousy which is clear when you look at all his comments over the years

            And if Roach keeps it up they gonna need to replace the Khan master thread with his own!

              Floyd feels like Manny has slowed down enough to beat him. I remember after the Bradley rematch he was saying he fought like an amateur and was slow and sluggish compared to his fight with Cotto.

                Roach gave reasons why both of them were to blame for not making the fight in 09. Since that time however, Manny has been the one saying he would fight Floyd and take random drug testing. Floyd ran scared for 6 years and there is countless hours of video on YouTube of mayweather himself coming up with a slew of excuses as to why he refused to fight pacquiao. Even about a week before the algieri fight mayweather was giving excuses and threatened to fire his own father for even mentioning he should fight pacquiao. Remember? He said he'd rather fight two bums because its about smarter not harder. Then the foot locker commercial came out and Manny called him out right after the algiero fight, #fightpacquiao was trending on twitter, Floyd had nowhere to.run at that point but he damn sure tried to run. He was trying to make fights with both cotto and Anthony mundine until he finally succumbed and was duck shamed into fighting pacquiao.

                  Roach is talking more S. H. I. T. than colitis lately. I wonder how much talking he'll be doing at the post fight press conference should Manny lose, which I feel he will? Will Roach congratulate or continue to hate?
