Comments Thread For: Arum: Journalistic decline shaped Floyd-Manny perceptions

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Just when you think you know, you don’t.

Remember when all the geniuses of the sport – you know, the so-called fight freaks and the lemmings who follow – claimed it would never happen, and they were all sure that they knew why?

We know Bob Arum and Floyd Mayweather Jr. don’t get along, they insisted, so the idea that they’ll ever be able to share a stage while a fight with Manny Pacquiao is being announced is simply not possible.

Less than a year ago, in fact, when reporting on Pacquiao’s contract extension with Top Rank, those clairvoyants used phrases like “killing any hopes” and “impossible to fathom” when discussing how the Filipino’s deal with the Las Vegas promoter would impact a possible mega-fight with “Money.”

Not only were they the smartest guys in the room. They had the attitudes to match.

Right up until they were wrong, that is.

“The quality of journalism today is not what it used to be,” Arum said in a recent phone chat, in which he described the way Mayweather had responded over the years to agenda-wielding queries about him. [Click Here To Read More]

Arum speaks the truth that Floyd never wanted to fight. But with Memo helping him, he has gained some courage and confidence.

So Flip Flopping Bob is changing his tune when he knows Floyd wanted the fight as long as random blood and urine testing was part of the deal.

Bob and Team Pac delayed the fight over testing, and have now finally conceded to the USADA testing that Floyd wanted and which they avoided until now.

Well that, and the 60-40 purse split.

Bob Arum gots to be related to Jim Jones (the drink the kool aid cult guy not the we fly high rapper guy) with his ability to make people trust everything he says without question.

Arum says "fight not happened because of Mayweather's lack of real interest"

Arum says "Meeting in Miami Heat Game was accidental"

100% sure Floyd fans would believe this "Arum says"

I guess Arum was misquoted when he said Mayweather was like Hitler, it was all the journalists fault

well..Bobby really put the "know-it-alls" in their place, there are not only dumb people but there are in fact some very dumb journalists, no offense but a lot of these journalists don't know a lick of boxing, watching Teddy Atlas interviews is a good testament cuz he always corrects them and so does Bob, anyways Jhonny is gonna murder Mr. Russell as he likes to get called, this writer is good but i disagree with his pick of Mr. Russell, unless Russell gets past those straight punches of Jhonny i really doubt he'll do anything noteworthy, anybody that does get past those punches takes a hell of a beating first and Jhonny is one of the most underrated boxers in the world, the man can do it all as opposed to Mr. Russell who is obssessed with his tremendous speed, Jhonny by TKO or unanimous decision, Jhonny has ALL the tools of a great fighter, not only boxes but he'll beat that azz on the inside
