I want to say that's absolutely crazy.... Sanctioning bodies changing their rules and the way they operate overnight.

    BUT.

In this case...... Good riddance. This is fabulous news, at least for Kovalev and his fans. So basically, either Stevenson fights Kovalev after they take care of their mandatory opponents, or he vacates and Kovalev gets to fight for the vacant title? Sounds good to me.

(it's just weird because I've NEVER seen something like this before)

Nothing is wrong with them naming Kov mandatory but WBC creating anoyher belt is what i have issue with.

Stevenson out there showing he wants fight cause ot is big now so make Kov mandatory but dont give him fake belt

Its a mess.... just look at the WBC middleweights for example..... Tureano johnson holds a diamond belt, there for is in line for a shot... GGG has the interum belt... and heiland is ranked # 1

            So it looks like this:
            WBC Champ: Cotto
            WBC Interum: GGG
            WBC Diamon: Johnson
            WBC #1 Ranked: Heiland

Someone please tell me that this isn't some ******ed as sh^t!

Bravo to Paschal for refusing to buy in to this crappy attempt to take a portion of his purse. I hope Kovalev doesn't buy into it either and refuses to pay the WBC a sanctioning fee.

Stevenson has bigger money fights available against Chavez Jr. and Lucian Bute. He could take those fights and keep all the money while throwing the WBC belt in the garbage. While I would love to see him fight Kovalev, if I were him, I wouldn't allow the WBC to force me into doing anything.

Canelo Alvarez held the WBC title for two years and never fought a mandatory. The same with Chavez Jr. And, of course, Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto fight whoever the hell they want when they want, belts or not. If I were Stevenson, I would follow this same path. Forget the belt and take the fight that pays the most money.

I guarantee the WBC wouldn't give a second thought to trying to force Stevenson to fight Kovalev if Stevenson chose to fight Chavez Jr., Bute or Bernard Hopkins.

Anyone who knows anything about these belts, and how meaningless they are knows that the WBC 'diamond' belt is not a championship but represents the mandatory challenger to the WBC crown. That being said the belts are all garbage and the real championships are not represented by any belt.

The WBO probably made a mistake not joining together with the WBC, WBA and IBF.
