Prime Roy fought a lot of body guards, ex cops, firemen, etc. I KNOW that and you KNOW that. He ducked plenty of fights man. The Nunn and Body Snatcher fights in particular. Now, why do you think he did that? Roy was never looking for a "fight". He was never touched in his prime because outside of James Toney and pre prime Hopkin's, he never wanted to fight the best. He was a **** talker like Floyd but didn't back it up in the ring. He made a lot of amateurish mistakes that an A Level fighter would take advantage of. You wanna talk boxing? Let's talk boxing but do realize that I KNOW boxing. I'm no Fanboy who just started watching 5-10 years ago. I am a legit boxing fanatic and fan of the sport who understands all aspects of the fight game. Roy was overrated just like Floyd is overrated. They are not ATG's. They are mere HOF'mers who ducked top level opposition. It's not hard to look great against B/C Level guys. You see what happened to Roy against Joe right? But just a fight earlier, he looked like legend against the same guy Joe owner, in Jeff Lacy. End thread.
80% of Kovalev's entire career has been filled with those type of opponents...

Oh hail the great Cedric Agnew and Blake Caparello lol......

Kovalev is very stiff and robotic/predictable in his style...His chin is also not iron either (he got dropped by Darnell Boone and KO'ed in the amateurs with headgear on)..I think Roy would get his style timed quite easily.....and from there on he would tee off on Kovalev....

It would probably be a decent fight for a few rounds, but Roy would TKO Kovalev in the 9th round.....Roy is better in every aspect of the sport other than pure punching power.....

People who are delusional and believe Kolavev would beat Roy... Go back and rewatch his fight against Pascal. He got caught all fight and Pascal is like a ****ty version of RJJ - much slower, less powerfull, no reflexes, no technique.

Pascal is vastly underrated and so is his chin. He got hurt by a Dawson and Popkins both not very big punchers.

And people saying that Kovalev showed a good chin by taking Pascal's shots... come on, Pascal couldn't hurt Lucien Bute with his wild punches.

Kovalev is a excellent LHW, probably the best since Roy himself. But Roy is on a whole other level, is really unfair to pit Roy against present-day fighters.

They underestimate Kovalev wayyyy too much, they probably think Ward will beat him too
did you just compare a 50 yr old BHop and Clev to a PRIME Roy?!? you shouldn't be offended by posters picking a PRIME Roy to beat ANYONE...Roy was unbeatable in the eyes of many in his prime....picking Roy is not a knock on Krusher...it's just a testament to Roy's greatness in his prime...ya'll must've forgot!!

How would he have caught Roy all day? Roy was extremely elusive in his prime. Roy's speed would have been a nightmare for Kov.

And now he's a master boxer?

            Really?

When I think of a master boxer, I'm thinking of the likes of Mike McCallum.

Roy was "elusive"??? No he wasn't. Roy was a product of good match making. What we never saw in his prime, is that he couldn't take a punch. An A Level fighter would crack him. SK would KO him. He's too smart for Roy.

                  Ha! Okay.

He barely lost rounds in his prime.

                  Kov's too smart?

Kov seems easy enough to hit to me.

Bump the thread in a few years time.

Koval gets out boxed at this stage of his career. I doubt he could improve to the point of handling Roy in Roys best years.
If he improves his foot work to work with a better jab(s) and can close distance better while maintaining punching balance that would be a huge improvement for him.
I think he's capable but fighting the caliber of opponents he has is not helping him learn.
Fighting Stevenson and Ward will give him a chance to develop better boxing skills and improve his judgement on choices. He is still a raw talent compared to past lightheavy greats like a Mike Spinks or Bob Foster who bring power with them.
I like him and his era right now is a good one for his talents.
