Is Boxing the only Sport that has not Improved over the Years?

Today's nutrition and training (and supplements) make athletes bigger and faster, which makes a big difference on the football field, basketball court, etc.

But in boxing you still have to fight in a weight class. If you get bigger, you just move up to another weight class and fight guys your own size. Being bigger isn't an advantage for you except in the HW division, where you can outweigh and outsize your opponent significantly.

Today, the best athletes play football, basketball, etc. But back in the day, boxing was more popular. The best athletes often were boxers.

I don't think there's much, if any improvement when you look at a guy like Hagler for example. There's nobody like that today. There's nobody like Ali. Not even kind of.

Today, a guy with Clay's talent coming up would play football.

So Pulev/Povetkin/Haye/Chambers/Fury can knock out Lewis/Tyson/Holyfield/Bowe/Mercer/?

No...........The 90's Heavys would literally wipe them out.

Boxing SHOULD have evolved but not enough people do it, so it didn't. This is common sense. Boxing stopped evolving after the 90's. That's the bottom line.

There is NOTHING today's fighters do that the 90's fighters didn't do just as well if not better.

Lewis/Pernell/Roy/Hopkins/Toney/Holyfield/Oscar/Tito are equal to if not better than Floyd/Pac/Rigo/Wlad/Ward/GGG/Kovalev.

And there's a whole bunch of 2nd tier 90's fighters like Benn/Mccellan/Eubank/Dariuz/ that would easily be among the top MWs and SMW'S today

I'm taking a HUGE sample size people.

          The bottom line is this:

          The likes of
          Roy/Lennox/Toney/Hopkins/Holyfield/Bowe/Benn/Mccellan/Eubank/Dariuz/
calzaghe/Pernell Whitakker/Oscar/Felix Trinidad/Mccellan/ would do very very well against

          Floyd/Pac/Wlad/Rigo/GGG/Kovalev/Ward/Froch/Cotto/Marquez etc etc

There is no 'evolution' that Alexander ***ing Povetkin have done in comparison to Rid**** Bowe.

          Bowe would brutally murder Povetkin.

and once again I'm repeating myself.

Boxing is NOT the only sport.

Young Tim Duncan/Ginobini/Parker was back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

14 freaking years later, old slow gray hair balding versions of those guys beat up the 'Modern Lebron James' and won the Finals.

Ronaldo/Raul/Rivaldo/Ruud/Henry/Sheva is greater than any combination of strikers today.

In fact if it wasn't for Messi/CR7....................Football could be said to have regressed big time compared to the 90's and early 2000's.

              Sprinters are faster

              Footballers score more goals

Baseball players hit more home runs

Snooker players get more century breaks

Tennis is played at a higher level

With the advancement of sports science, sportsmen being more professional tactics and training methods have made huge gains in all other sports.

              All except one.

Well that is if you listen to your average boxing fan

Which sees boxing in a very nostalgic way. Where the boxers in the past were faster, hit harder, could take a better punch, were tougher and had more stamina, more skilful and had better tactical awarness.

Hard to believe yes. Despite all other sports improving boxing has gone backwards.

Are you one of those that believe this rubbish?

Luckily they time the 100m or some of you would be claiming Lewis was faster than bolt
Fihters fought 15 rounds fights going all out in the 70s and 80s. No adays guys gas and run before the 12th

The pool of people going into boxing is much smaller now

Also if we are comparing guys from 59 plus years ago, fighters now are much more athletic

                    False.

Todays boxing is totally wrong for lays style and attributes. A 210lb featherfist runner with no reflexes. That hasn't been a good combination of qualities for over 30 years.

Today you will see a hundred Clay like talents in amateur boxing. They never make it to pro.

As for Hagler. Canelo Alvarez is kind of like a "Super Hagler".

                      Agreed.

And I mean those sons of *****es above claiming so and making excuses ought to be broken, strung up by their legs and stoned through the streets!

It's outrageous. And it's the ONLY thing really hurting boxing today.

OTNB is dead! LEt go of it and move on!
