styles make fights. floyd had just spend 10.5 rounds on the ropes against chino maidana, and was looking his age. prior to that, he had ended up on the ropes against cotto. it was possible that cotto's jab and boxing skill put floyd on the ropes, but maidana doesn't have any of that. floyd was on the ropes against madiana in the first fight because he had no choice.

he, umm, powered up for the rematch, and his legs looked superb.


go watch the first maidana fight. i know you guys don't have HD TV and sh#T, so look for an american feed. then watch the malignaggi fight. i understand that malignaggi and floyd are very different stylists, even if they are boxers first, but there are two important places to focus on. one; floyd was on the ropes against maidana, and porter has much, much better footspeed. two; porter kept his hands free on the inside against paulie, and hit him hard enough to knock a solid chinned fighter completely unconscious.

He moves well on his feet, good headmovement and throws all the punces in the book. I remember when Antonio Tarver was a showtime analyst and he was giving Kessler his dues for NOT being a stiff european.

Also, no inside game? dfq. Maybe he doesn't defend well from 100 clinches in 10 rounds or 5-6 intentional headbutts, but actual inside fighting - he has certain things that he does very well.

You can see how he used the uppercut to perfection vs Calzaghe.
