After the tournament is all said and done, one winner emerges as a legitimate Champion. Lets just hope the fighters who are selected are legit because i know how "flexible" the WBC can be with their rankings, instead of marketability over substance it would be nice to see the fighters ranked by substance over marketability, this way we wont get undeserving fighters filling the bracket instead of worthy deserving participants.

One name comes to mind when i mentioned the word "undeserving", who would rather face the losers to put himself in that mandatory position. Sadly that would actually convince ppl that he "earned" that slot

Lastly, a tournament sounds like a great idea and the concept that the mandatory position has to be fought for will weed out the frauds and produce a legitimate challenger for Floyd. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

If you read the article it clearly states the tournament will happen to accomodate a floyd/pac fight. The tournament said it would be completed in possibly a year and the winner would be in the mandatory positision.

So while (hopefully) floyd and pac are getting ready tp fight each other, the tournament will be going on also.

Instead of making the tournament with the end goal as Floyd - they should market it as a tournament of fighters Floyd won't fight and because of that we are bypassing him and giving the fans what they want - which is not this constant Mayweather Sweepstakes bull****. I'm tired of having good fighters sacrificed only to lose their value after Floyd dances with them and all this "easy work", "he lost to Floyd though". A tournament I can get into on its own merits where i don't have to be reminded of how all this figures into Floyd's scheme. Just fights please.

Arum doesnt want to fight May 2nd though. He said only Mexicans get that date, even though he had Pacquiao - Mosley on MAY 7th, 2011. But hey, somehow this is still Mayweathers fault.

Canelo - Cotto will be there for years to come, that fight can take the backseat to Floyd and Manny anyday. But like i said, Arum not liking May 2nd is still Mayweathers fault.

Decent idea, if they can get it all to work.

Three fights to get to the mandatory at 147. Three fights to get to the mandatory at 154. For both paths, assuming things kick off January 2015, it'll likely take until December 2014/early 2016 to have everything shake out; Floyd would have completed his Showtime deal and, if he keeps to what he's said, would likely retire or contemplate one more fight. Both divisions would be wide open, looking for a new champion to reign.

-Who gets into the WBC 147 tournament? If I had to guess (doubt that Arum lets the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happen, so Floyd would fight Khan in May, with the September fight being in flux):

Marcos Maidana, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, Robert Guerrero, Josesito Lopez, Shawn Porter, Chris van Heerden, Sadam Ali, Erroll Spence, Sammy Vasquez,Timothy Bradley (if Arum wants to allow participation)

obviously more than 8 names; left some room to pick/choose.

-Who gets into the WBC 154 tournament? If I had to guess:

Vanes Matirosyan, Charlo without the IBF shot, Anthony Mundine, James Kirkland, Austin Trout, Joshua Clottey, "JRock" Julian Wilams, Ramon Alvarez, Liam Smith, Ishe Smith, Glen Tapia.

again, more names than the eight-man field. winner of the tournament has Canelo Alvarez as their mandatory defense, if Saul is still competing at 154.

with near all of these guys being at around the same level right now, you set up quality matchups; 'round of 8' fights in the spring, 'round of 4' fights in the summer/fall, finals in winter 2015.
