Comments Thread For: Not So Fast On Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez

By Jake Donovan - Reports have begun to swirl of progress being made in regards to a potential clash between World middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former 154 lb. titlist Saul ‘Canelo?Alvarez.

    Except that it’s not.

Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, insists that the Alvarez side has agreed to all terms and that the only thing left is for Cotto and his team to follow suit.

In recent weeks, de la Hoya has also: offered to put up a record-breaking purse in order to secure the rights for a long-awaited showdown with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao; has suggested that the winner of this weekend’s showdown between Amir Khan and Devon Alexander is next in line for a shot at Mayweather; insisted that an all-British bout between Khan and Kell Brook is “Plan B?in the event that Khan doesn’t land Mayweather, and that such a fight would draw 100,000 fans.

Credit to the Hall-of-Fame fighter and now full-time promoter for drumming up interest as it relates to his promotional company, who hosts Khan-Alexander and a full undercard at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this weekend. [Click Here To Read More]

Khan doesn't deserve the fight and doesn't win anyways. And Khan vs Kell would be a great fight, Kell would stop him early, it would be marvelous.

And King Cotto would take Canelo to school, my main man Oscar doesn't want that.

This article is trying to make it seem like Cotto is left in the dark from negotiations which is hardly the case. I'm sure he gave Canelo his demands and Canelo has agreed to them. A few weeks back canelo or Oscar admitted that the negotiations were difficult because of Cotto's demands. I'm sure Oscar, Canelo, and Bob are well aware of Cotto's terms. If there is no problem with the negotiations I'm sure Cotto will agree to fight. Mayweather is irrelevant at this point, he has no claim on that date and I doubt Cotto cares whether Mayweather fights on Mexican holidays.

          That's what I don't get

Canelo has agreed to Cotto's commands, what else is left to do?

That would be awesome if Cotto realized he doesnt need Bob Arum AT ALL for this fight. Be nice if that was the hold up and Bob gets squeezed outta this one. I literally loathe Bob Arum and when he croaks (hopefully violent and slow) i will be on the 1st flight out just to take a piss on his grave

Exactly. Doesn't make sense. I'm pretty sure Cotto is well aware of his free agency status and options yet this fight is in "heavy negotiations" and top rank is involved. I bet the fight gets signed in a few days.

That the previous report of Canelo agreeing to the terms is false. It is possible that he may agree sometime soon but as of now, nothing is set in stone. Therefore the previous report is smokescreen.

What demands? Just two days ago he said he wants 50/50, the date and the venue. He's supposed to allow Cotto to come second and be first? He's the champion it's expected...

And, Canelo can give Cotto everything he wants but he can't give him Mayweather's zero. Legacy to Cotto has meaning as he showed by taking on Martinez for less money than he would have made against Alvarez. Beating Mayweather puts Cotto in ATG status, it really does. Beating Canelo would be beating Floyd's left overs.
