Trainer Freddie Roach would live to get Manny Pacquiao in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) - in what is undeniably the biggest fight in boxing.

Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, is currently negotiating a potential 2015 mega-match between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

If the Mayweather discussions fall apart, Roach has made it no secret that Danny Garcia (29-0, 17KOs) would be his preferred second option.

Freddie has been around Arum too long. He's knows damn well that Haymon was game for a Pacquiao vs. Garcia fight, now he's trying to spin it like it's Haymon's fault:

Boxing promoter Bob Arum maintained that he doesn’t favor Danny Garcia as a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao.

The Top Rank Inc. CEO explained that Garcia, the current junior welterweight king, might not even get past Chris Algieri, who is scheduled for a 12-round joust with Pacquiao.

“I don't think Danny Garcia if he fought Algieri today would have much of a chance,” Arum said in an interview with Radio Rahim. “I mean Algieri is a real great athlete.”

There have been talks of a possible match-up between Pacquiao and Garcia before the Algieri fight was set up.

Garcia is a huge step down from Mayweather. A HUGE step down. I guess if Mayweather declines the fight they are planning on Pacquiao fighting possibly at the Barclays center

Until we see Haymon advised fighters matched against other than Golden Boy promoted fighters, it makes Haymon a little suspect. And I'm talking about actual negotiated fights, not winning purse bids a la Loma vs Russell or up against a purse bid a la Wilder vs Stiverne. He's seems to be monopolizing half the sport so it still has yet to be seen if he'll offer one of his guys against Pac. The guy has done well for his fighters, but, history says you have to sign with Haymon to fight one of his guys, see Maidana, Mattysse, etc.

However, history also says that Haymon did "like" the Pacquiao vs. Garcia fight, but it was Arum that did "not like" the fight.

November 13, 2014:

Not including himself, six of the nine fighters on ESPN's top 10 ranking for the welterweight division are unavailable to Manny Pacquiao because of the politics surrounding the sport of boxing today.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., Keith Thurman, Marcos Maidana, Shawn Porter, Devon Alexander and Robert Guerrero are all signed with Al Haymon who Pacquiao's people—Top Rank and HBO—refuse to work with at the current time.

Two other names on the top 10 list are Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, a pair that Pacquiao has fought a combined six times. Besides Kell Brook, there isn't a single compelling matchup available to Pacquiao in the welterweight division.

Some of you might be thinking that a move back down to junior welterweight might make matchmaking a little easier, but many of the top guys in that division like Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Lucas Matthysse and Lamont Peterson are also signed with Haymon, which makes all of those matchups dead on arrival as well.

Pacquiao is already a lock for the Hall of Fame in my view and I'm sure in the view of most others, so he doesn't have much if anything left to prove. But it is a shame that years of his career are being wasted on fighting the likes of Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri.
