MGM Grand, Las Vegas - According to Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, manager Al Haymon is very open to the idea of having WBC/WBA 140-pound champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17KOs) move up in weight to face WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2 38KOs).
"I love the Danny Garcia-Pacquiao fight for instance. We have talked to Al about it and he likes it, he's open to it. We're going towards the right direction [of making fights with Top Rank]," De La Hoya said.
As krikya360.com reported earlier, De La Hoya met with Top Rank on Thursday and several potential fights were discussed.
Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, and Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, are very interested in having the Filipino superstar face Garcia next year. Pacquiao will first defend his title against Chris Algieri on November 22 in Macau, China.
Although there is a lot of tension between Arum and Haymon, De La Hoya says that wouldn't be an issue with making the fight, because the two promoters will handle the actual negotiations.
"There is a manager at Top Rank that I'm not too fond of that works closely with Top Rank. I'm not gong to work with him, I'm going to work with Bob," De La Hoya said.
