Comments Thread For: Roach: Pacquiao's First Fight Back at 140? Danny Garcia!

Trainer Freddie Roach played down hopes of a Manny Pacquiao showdown with Floyd Mayweather and said unbeaten two-belt world champion Danny Garcia could be next for “Pacman” after he fights Chris Algieri on Saturday in Macau.

The drop to light welterweight (140lb) would be a further blow to prospects of a mega-fight with Mayweather. Roach instead is targeting the impressive Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) who holds both the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association belts at light welterweight.

I'm starting to assume that Danny Garcia may only have 1 fight left with Golden Boy and Al Haymon. I think after 2014, we'll know how this Al Haymon, Richard Schafer & Golden Boy Promotions thing will shake-out. It seems like Schafer is going to run Mayweather Promotions and that Mayweather may be leaving Al Haymon soon.

I would personally like for Roach to STFU and concentrate on the fight in front of him.

Garcia gets hatton'd and he knows it

Algieri and Postol would beat Garcia so that fight does nothing for me

If JMM who has Alvarado problems sleeps Manny, Swift and that rare power leaves him comatose, Manny at this age doesn't have the discipline to follow a boxing game plan, without literally falling asleep in the ring, let Swift land those shots Bradley landed in fight 2, a fight I felt Manny very easily lost between 5-7 rounds but I digress................

I can see Danny taking the fight. Career high payday, and I don't think he would be expected to win.

Sorry Freddie, you don't run the show:

                October 22, 2014:

Boxing promoter Bob Arum maintained that he doesn’t favor Danny Garcia as a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao.

The Top Rank Inc. CEO explained that Garcia, the current junior welterweight king, might not even get past Chris Algieri, who is scheduled for a 12-round joust with Pacquiao.

“I don't think Danny Garcia if he fought Algieri today would have much of a chance,” Arum said in an interview with Radio Rahim. “I mean Algieri is a real great athlete.”

There have been talks of a possible match-up between Pacquiao and Garcia before the Algieri fight was set up.

“We were gonna make Pacquiao-Provodnikov, but once Algieri licked him (Provodnikov), then we figured Algieri has enough of a back story to make this fight very interesting,” he said.

Arum (and Manny fans) can't use the excuse that Haymon was in the way, because Oscar and Haymon were onboard:

Like he stopped Herrera right? If Pacquiao is still Pacquiao, then Danny Garcia gets the same treatment Rios, Margarito, De La Hoya got...

Manny has to start considering other options because of the history of Mayweather to make crazy excuses like...

"You have to leave your promoter"

"You have to give me some fights under Mayweather promitions"
