it proves that he is an outright smaller man.

marquez was a freaking featherweight for a decade and a half. tim bradley started his career at 140 lbs, and is ripped down to the bone at WW at 31. bradley was a 140 lber when marquez was at 126. marquez is 10 years older than bradley.

it's going to be a complete waste of time for me to try and explain why that matters. you should hear it and say "oh."

why was marquez a FW for 15 years, and why wasn't bradley?

sometimes, you just need to let NE sit you on his lap, and teach you things.

You've gone away from the focus point, Bradley boxed, as did John and Mayweather. They utilized their lengths to force Marquez out of his element. It's not coincidental that Mayweather who is classes above those guys not only took Marquez out of his element but did so in a far more impressive manner. We can only agree to disagree on size, I don't see it, never have, didn't see it when it was signed and I certainly don't see this "So much bigger" now.

What kills me is that we're even discussing something this useless

It isn't going to kill you to admit that a 12-round shutout over Juan Manuel Marquez while coming off a two-year layoff is a great win. The arguments against it are really flimsy and just make you shake your head.

Some people pretend Mayweather weighed so much more because of the weigh-in debacle, as if he came into the ring weighing 160. The guy's still fighting at welter five years later and there is absolutely no proof that he's ever ballooned beyond even 152. Besides, can anyone really sit there and pretend it was Floyd's size advantage that got him the win? As if he went all Margarito on Marquez or something.

I didn't think this was that great a win at the outset -- and said that -- simply because I didn't think Marquez was natural at that weight. He then moved down to 135 and then had a 2min farce of a fight at 140. I still thought he wasn't natural at welter when he moved back up to face Pacquiao, but he looked elite in that third bout and we all know what happened in the fourth. Maybe Memo used something illegal, maybe it was just Marquez finally getting a real conditioning coach. But unfortunately for some of you, that takes nothing away from what he did to Pacquiao and he is a great fighter in his own right. Just like even if I thought Pacquiao was juiced to the gills against Cotto, it takes nothing away from what he did and it doesn't taint or effect the enormity of the win in my eyes. Mayweather shut Marquez out over 12 rounds because he was the superior fighter. And when two future HOF'ers meet while still at their peak and one outclasses the other, it's a great win.

Decent win. Marquez looked stuck in the mud.
