You're forgetting that Showtime money. But I agree with your main point... these tune-up fights are keeping boxing as a marginal sport. I didn't even bother watching this event. I only watch "important" fights now. Nobody on this card is a star, and Broner is a well-marketed hype job.

Peterson sells in DC, Guerrero in SJ, Ward in Oak, Crawford in Omaha, and even Alvarado sold well in Denver.
Kind of sad that Ward is still considered a "rising star." Rising stars should fight at home more often... and you named Ward LOL... when does he not fight at home?

True I'm sure Showtime covered most of it but really if the gate can't even cover the opening attractions salary then that must put them in the red considering they need another 2 million to cover the other fighters salaries.

Showtime doesn't realize their getting played for lame ass fights which will make the good fights impossible to make.

Was just giving examples of fighters selling well in their hometowns. Names that came to mind. Alvarado also isnt a rising anything but i named him too just because he sold well in Denver

Nobody wants to see 2 Maidana wives in a breakdancing contest inside a boxing ring next September, or in any September for that matter.

that what I'm thinking. I don't think there are that many hot dogs or pretzels in the US to make the purses for ab, matts and berto.

For those that dont understand the business, the arena which hosted Broners fight PAID a site fee for the right to Broners fights.

Showtime pays for all or most but most likely ALL of the production costs, then pays Golden Boy or whatever promotor it is a rights fee for the right to broadcast the fights, and Its makes its money back through charging for tv ads and through its monthly subscription base.

That gate goes all to the promoter unless the boxerget a cut.

700K viewers, 1 mill for main event, trust me when I say this even made lots.of money
