Comments Thread For: Ortiz Wants Matthysse Rematch: I Beat The Count!

The now former silver world junior welterweight champion of the WBC, Roberto "Massa" Ortiz, is back home in Mexico and he is furious with the referee's stoppage last Saturday night in Cincinnati. Ortiz was hit with a hard shot to the body by Argentina's Lucas Matthysse. He went down to his knees and was running the clock to fully recover. He got up at the count of nine, but the referee Benjy Estevez waved off the fight and said Ortiz got up too late.

Bad call by the ref, but you were out of your element and about to be brutally stopped.
Ref did him a favor. Now Ortiz can use this to get a name C fighter and back on Showtime.

It's pretty clear that he beat the count but I doubt he will ever see a rematch since this was just a tune up fight for Matthysse to begin with.

Ortiz Go Start Over; Get Up At 7 Clown, Not 9

Just another wanna cry foul, who found himself getting off the canvas. Stay on your feet and these things won't happen. Ortiz was slow, tentative anyway; he didn't come to fight and didn't want to fight after the nasty liver shot he took. The look on Ortiz face told the whole story.

Haha right. While he may have technically beat the count, he didn't want to fight. Face and body language said it all. 4 days later, the pain and threat is gone. Easy to justify complaint now but it has little merit. To be kind, it was a docile effort.

bad call by the ref. If you are up before the 10 count and you are not in any danger, like dizzy or wobbly, the ref should let you continue. The rule is that you have to be up before the count of 10, which he was, but you can tell he didnt wanna fight smh
