Comments Thread For: Golovkin-Ward: Promoter Doesn't See Financial Sense

NEW YORK ?A middleweight championship unification fight against Miguel Cotto probably is the most unlikely of Gennady’s Golovkin’s potential options to actually materialize.

Golovkin versus Andre Ward seems to be a close second. While Ward and Golovkin both have said that they’ll fight each other, Golovkin’s promoter made it clear in the aftermath of Golovkin’s third-round knockout of Daniel Geale on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden that the dollars might not make sense for Golovkin or Ward.

Of course it doesn't make sense, GGG can't beat Ward. If team GGG thought he could beat Ward, they would make the fight. They don't.

Boxing is about the best fighting the best. GGG and his team are choosing the money fight over the best fight. Let's see if NSB keeps with its historical behavior and turns their collective back on him since boxing isn't about making money.

HBO would be idiots to play cheap for Ward/Golovkin. If they were willing to pay for Golovkin/Chavez, a Ward fight should get paid for, too.

Ward is the only guy that can beat ggg from 154-168.. Ward doesn't bring big money and ggg is looking for the most money.. Of all the possible big names ggg can fight, ward brings the least amount of money

            1. Ward can't fight....he can't even sign a contract at the moment for a fight.
            2. This would not be a ppv fight and the highest HBO pays for a non ppv even is $2.75 million to be split up amongst both fighters with the A-Side usually taking the bulk.
            3. Ward is not going to accept the fight even if he could because in HBO's eyes he's not the marquee name in this equation, while the public may argue differently it's not the public who handles the numbers and the views for each guys fights paints a different story than the public would believe.
            4. Ward would be smarter to fight Chavez jr and take away his fans first
            5. Gennady would be smart to fight cotto or canelo and improve his ticket sales.
            6. HBO would be absolutely ****** to let this fight happen before it's ppv worthy.
            7. Neither guy has had a ppv bout and those names i mentioned would put them on ppv before they face each other.

Well right now it is not a big fight and yes Ward would get the bigger cut of the pie that is very true because he is #2 P4P so if they wait and if Ward gets active that fight could be HUGE in maybe another year or so but right now it is a HBO Network Fight not a PPV Match Up just yet but it can be if GGG keep winning and Ward get active and just take own who ever is willing to fight him at 168 for now and just be patient

FYI - The promoters, the networks and the matchmakers dictate......GGG and his team have already made it clear that they would fight Ward. Just because the button pushers are concerned about the $$$ and they should be because they take a huge financial risk as well does not mean that Sanchez and GGG have anything to fear. I LOVE Ward and have seen him fight and train live and IMHO i think GGG will beat him on power alone. He will walk through Wards punches and eventually catch Ward with a power shot. Clearly Ward has much better technical skills but i seriously doubt that he could handle G's devastating power shots. GGG is a very rare breed that does not come around very often in boxing and soon everyone will hopefully realize that.....well maybe not the haters. Nothing can sway them.

But Ward will demand the fight be in Oakland where he can have a California referee who permits him to foul (headbutt, hit off the break and hit while holding). And in California, he'll be able to avoid PED testing.

So you shat on Ward for bringing Dawson down to 168 but are now demanding Ward go to 160 to fight Golovkin?

                    You are truly pathetic.
