Comments Thread For: Perez Blames American Influence For Jennings Win

Tough Cuban heavyweight Mike Perez (20-1-1, 12KOs) was not a happy camper in the aftermath of Saturday's split decision loss to Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10KOs). Their HBO televised WBC eliminator took place at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The referee, Harvey Dock, took away a point from Perez in the twelfth and final round. He claimed Perez disobeyed his instructions for a clean break by punching Jennings in the face.

That point deduction gave Jennings the victory with scores of 114-113 and 115-112. The third judge saw Perez as the 114-113 winner. Without the point deduction, the fight would have been a split draw.

how did u guys score the fight i watched it twice the first time i had a draw with jennings winning cause of the foul which sucks. 2nd time i had it a draw with the penalty so perez won. I was rooting for jennings but i hate to see a fight get decided by a ****** one point penalty. But imo if that dont happen the judges still find a way to give it to jennings. I mean think about it honestly how often if ever are televised big fights get draws? This was an undercard granted but it was still a big fight in many ways. no way they let that fight end in a draw it was not "tv friendly" enough for a rematch

I was live at the fight and thought Jennings won clearly. Everyone was shocked when we heard how close the scores were.

Mike Perez can blame no one but himself, he showed a lack of physical fitness, has he has done numerous times in the past. Starting the fight well and landing a handful of good, clean shots is not enough to win a fight, this isn't the amateurs. It was Jennings you pressed the cation from the 5th round on and his right hook bruised up Perez's eye. It was only a cuffing shot but it was enough to make Perez think twice. Add to that his lack of physicality on the inside and tendency to come in overweight...we have a fighter who can only fight half a bout. He reminds me so much of Solis.

All the talent in the world but no dedication and a lack of stamina, a direct result of his physique.

i'll rewatch in a bit but i only gave perez rounds 2, 3, 6, and 12. round 1 didnt leave much to choose from so if i gave that to perez i would have scored it 115-112. perez did jack**** in the 2nd half of the fight

I thought jennings won 8-4 or 7-5 for me it was clear win for Jennings more active late pressing the action

I heard the cornerman tell Perez to make Jennings look bad, embarrass him, so Perez hung on him like a cheap suit. He grabbed and held like a 300 lb octopus. Since when is embarrassing the other guy a boxing tactic? Is that the Cuban school I heard so much about? All that did was make the fight stink.
