Why was Golovkin willing to move up to 168 for Chavez Jr but not for Andre Ward?

The same reason why anyone can't fight him
I don't believe he was in litigation then. There was simply no interest in fighting him.

To be fair the longer Ward is kept out from the pro game the better for GGG when he returns...
I still think Golovkin can beat any version of Ward but It certainly wouldn't be a bad thing for GGG to jump on a Ward that hasn't shown any dedication to the sport.

I'm sure GGG will go to 168lbs but I think first on his sights will be the likes of Geale obviously and Cotto/Quillin before that jump up in weight.

he feels he will grow into the division naturally but is not quite there yet, so he is taking his time.

difference is he isnt willing to move up to fight one guy yet unwilling to move up to fight someone else. he just doesnt want to move up right now as he is comfortable where he is regardless of the competition.

ggg is the opposite as he is comfortable at 160 or 168. what really matters seems to be who is in front of him and the thought of looking across the ring at andre ward is the thing that makes him uncomfortable.

or at least thats what was insinuated in the initial post of the thread, you know the one you failed to respond properly to.

There's no difference, it's about money.

The reason Ward doesn't move up is there's no genuine money fight at 175 except maybe Hopkins who has gone on record saying he'll never fight Ward.

Best believe if Chavez Jr said he wanted the fight at 175, Ward wouldn't hesitate to move up.

The TS completely ducked your response to him here ^^^.

Of course he would ramble on and keep arguing the points that can be argued with others. You come out with the best answer, but it was obviously invisible for him LOL

Fighters hardly "duck." For the right price, they'll face anyone and that's the game both Ward and GGG are playing. I do think things will get very very interesting if GGG flattens Geale on Saturday like I expect him to.

Chavez jr is easy work for more $$$, he'd get worked vs ward for less $$$.... but at some point GGG is gonna have to face ward to prove his worth esp with the hype he is getting..

It is all about the "Think I can" and "Know I can" mentalities.

I would rather fight a guy I "know I can" beat for 2+ million, than fight a guy for 1 million that I "think I can beat"

Golovkin knows Ward is the toughest fight out there for him, and he will not take it unless he is compensated. He and his team knows the chance of coming out of it with a loss are far greater fighting Ward than fighting JCCjr.

Personally I don't think Golovkin vs Ward can be made right now financially. Neither one of them are PPV stars, but I also guarantee they both will want very PPV level money.

How about Golovkin fights someone who can actually fight now rather than waiting a coupla years until Ward gets his legal problems sorta out.

Or perhaps you think GGG should just sit on the shelf for a while instead of getting in the ring as often as possible with the best opposition available?

There is also the very real likelihood that with GGG being able to do good numbers at MSG and with constantly growing popularity, GGG - Ward could be PPV down the line - which wouldn't be the case now.

FWIW I'd like to see Golovkin fight Ward, though I'd like to see him fight someone like Froch, Bika or perhaps Kessler first

Agreed. And I still feel like GGG needs a Cotto/Canelo first but I don't know if those two will ever look his way.
