Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux Knocks Out Kokietgym In One, Sparks Debate

Guillermo Rigondeux made a major statement in what is likely his final fight with Top Rank, one that will have fans talking for weeks to come.

For once, talks won't center around his latest fight lacking action and drama, though it doesn't necessarily mean the conversation will carry a positive vibe.

The defending World 122 lb. champion scored a 1st round knockout of Sod Kokietgym, Saturday evening (local time) at the Venetian Macao in Macau, China. The manner in which the ending was produced drew parallels of Floyd Mayweather's 4th round knockout of Victor Ortiz nearly three years ago, sparking the debate where the line exists between protecting yourself at all times and landing a sucker punch. That was Rigondeaux's big **** YOU to Top Rank and the entire boxing world.

This is the route he needs to take. Become the villain and make everybody hate him.

        Im quite disappointed myself.

With that said, when I saw the video was 2 mins long I was expecting a LEGIT 1st round KO, definitely not this. Which made it funny as ****.

the ref should have given kokietgym more time to recover from the headbutt

You don't walk up to a unified world champion and 2x Olympic Gold medalist with your hands down. Sorry/Not Sorry

The difference is Rigo pop him when refusing to touch gloves Mayweather smacked Ortiz when he was looking at the ref

Man, Sod was looking for a way out. That butt wasnt even bad. I can't really tell but that butt was at close quarters and there wasnt that much momentum for it to hurt that bad.

It's a fight. If you're not ready for your opponent to take your head off, he'll take it off. The ref clearly motioned to continue and the guy wasn't ready. That's his fault, not Rigo's.
