The funny thing is, all the people who think Chris is a huge threat, will be the same ones who will crush him and turn their backs after losing to Pac. One day he's terminator and the next day he's only fought bums.
The facts : Pac is looking fast. Still has good pop. Seems Motivated. Roach already worked on cornering, and cutting off the ring. Pac is supposed to come out fast, Team Pacquiao doesn't want Chris getting confidence or getting comfortable.
Chris seems in good shape. Face looks gaunt though. Didn't make 144. He's supposed to be in tremendous condition, We'll see
Prediction : Pacquiao comes out blazing, scores a knockdown in the first few rounds. Chris comes back, Boxes enough to survive a few more rounds. Pac then puts him away late rounds near the 8th
Did algieri eventually make weight? Didn't see an official thread on it.
Edit. From yahoo sports
"We have two scales upstairs and one of them said he was 143 on the dime and another said he was 143.8," Lane said. "We thought we were where we needed to be. But he had to go to the bathroom and he kind of held onto that. He's fine. ... He just had to go to the bathroom. No exercise. That was it."
I've done a ton of thinking about this fight, and read a lot of articles on it.
A lot of folks (who think Chris might win or do well) seem to be really overrating Algieri's abilities. He's tall and rangy, and moves fairly well. His jab is above average, and he has some toughness and discipline. Nothing about this guy jumps off the page, though. He has below average power, is not a natural counter puncher (an absolute must against Pacquiao) and doesn't defend very well. Provodnikov is a slow fighter and was able to hit him.
I think we'll have a good idea after the first round or two in regard to how this fight will pan out, but I just can't see Algieri being that competitive in this fight, let alone pulling off the upset.
If Pacquiao has the killer instinct and sets down on his punches he will stop this guy. If he boxes and doesn't press as much as we think he will, he will win a UD.
My prediction is Pacquiao TKO 6 Algieri but if he (Pacquiao) ends it earlier I wouldn't be shocked.
Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO Welterweight Championship against undefeated Chris Algieri on Saturday night in China. The show has a flight time of 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT
I figured it was about time for a prediction. Im with the majority,
Pac by TKO/KO.
I see a pretty good scrap though. I could be waaaaay off but I see Algieri giving Pac some trouble with his movement and jab. I don't see Pac getting hurt at all but Algieri will have some early success landing the jab. I see Pac making adjustments, effectively countering Algieri's jab, then hurting Algieri with a straight left (shocker, I know). Pac will keep his poise and finish the job with some combinations. And that's that. Not too detailed, just right.
Honestly, i would be really surprised if pacquiao doesnt get the knockout...
Still can't believe Arum thinks this card merits a $70 ppv...I wish the various promoters would try a "discounted" ppv or something...mayb $30 for a tuneup/stay busy fight like this, at the most.
