John Mugabi - July 2017
BEST JAB
Marvin Hagler: His jab was very effective because he was southpaw. It can destroy you. He also had a come-forward motion that helped him propel his jab with power and precision. The jab stung like hell.
BEST DEFENSE
James Green: This was my first fight that went past the halfway mark. Green was very efficient on the inside and distributed his punches with precision and had a Joe Frazier-like style. He literally knocked me out in one of the early rounds of our fight but I was saved by the bell, then rallied to beat Green in the 10th. His defense was cage-like and he simultaneously attacked with short, powerful punches.
BEST CHIN
Hagler: By virtue of the fact that he was the only fighter I faced who didn’t go down to my clean punches, especially an uppercut in the sixth round of our fight. My power would have woken up ancestors of other fighters I fought when I connected with the uppercut, but he barely wobbled after the punch landed.
FASTEST HANDS
Green: I found it hard to see his punches ?that’s why I got caught in the early rounds of the fight.
FASTEST FEET
Curtis Parker: I had to chase him down to knock him out. He was a very fast and talented fighter from Philadelphia.
SMARTEST
Hagler: The fact that Marvin changed stance after losing the first round ?he changed from being southpaw to orthodox and I made the mistake of changing to a southpaw and I got knocked out. I was never given a rematch because Marvin went through hell.
STRONGEST
Gerald McClellan: He was a Kronk fighter who had a title fight with me, knocking me out in the first round. My passion for boxing was lost in that fight. I was fighting to pay bills for that fight.
BEST PUNCHER
McClellan: The right hand that caught me was surgically trained and was the best recipe for a knockout.
BEST SKILLS
Hagler: Hagler’s experience, talent and toughness enabled him to show the best set of skills. I attribute this to Hagler’s length of time in the sport before becoming champion
BEST OVERALL
Hagler: He had too much experience for me. He had barely lost a fight from the start of his career.

Barry McGuigan - July 2017
BEST JAB
Charm Chiteule: The best jab was either Pedroza or Charm Chiteule. Chiteule was very good; he blackened my eye. He was very slick, tough durable. I hit him with a lot before I got him out of there.
BEST DEFENSE
Eusebio Pedroza: Lateral movement, spatial awareness, head movement, knew where you were, stepped back, stepped in, he could block. I think I caught him once with a good left hook to the body at the end of the fifth round. He was very hard to hit. He was brilliant on the inside, really good at riding a punch, blocking, slipping, rolling his head, pulling back, in and out. Very, very tasty on the inside, very sophisticated.
BEST CHIN
Juan Laporte: Laporte had an incredible chin, unbelievable chin. Nobody ever put him down. I had him out on his feet in the 10th round. He said he’s never been so badly hurt. He fought Julio Cesar Chavez; he fought so many world champions and I think he was stopped at the end of his career. His corner retired him. Nobody ever put him down. Nobody actually stopped him in the ring. He was definitely the toughest. A chin like granite.
FASTEST HANDS
Bernard Taylor: “The B.T. Express? incredibly talented, 440 amateur fights, lost six times, won the Pan-American games, won everything, amazing talent, very very quick. Without a doubt, he was the quickest.
FASTEST FEET
Taylor: Again, he was so quick, beautiful feet, into punching distance, fire off a volley of shots, get back out again and step to the side. Never went the same way, often guys that move are predictable. They had a preference. Often guys who are orthodox jab and push off the right foot and walk into a right hook or overhand right, whereas he would go this way or that way, equal fluidity, forward and back, in and out, side to side, brilliantly talented, just floated around the ring.
SMARTEST
Pedroza: Far better, just clever, smart, hold you, pull you back. I never stopped. I kept on coming. I put him under pressure. He was very smart, very clever, great spatial awareness. He was a master on the inside; he’d lean on you, shove you, just to create space. He was guilty of lots of misdemeanors. What he’d do is, he’d create enough space; he’d hook and hit you with his hook and forearm. He was clever and subtle. He’d put your head down and pull you into an uppercut. It’s a real skill. I’m not promoting it but his ability to fight on the inside was really tremendous. I couldn’t swallow properly for two or three days (after the fight). His boxing intelligence, that’s your DNA; it’s innate. He had that ability, miles better than anyone else I fought. Although I was young, I was a young hungry lion who put him under pressure. He didn’t start to fade until after the halfway stage. Taylor was more talented but not in the same league.
STRONGEST
Laporte: Laporte was the strongest, strong as a bull. Physical strength, naturally strong. He went up to 140 pounds; he fought Kostya Tszyu, Charles Murray, very strong guy. Physically, although he weighed 126, he was as strong as a welterweight. Really good fighter, a bit of a wasted talent.
BEST PUNCHER
Laporte: Laporte by a mile. He could punch, nearly took my head off. He hit me in the ninth round and, when I was a kid, I lived in the diamond in Clones. My mum and dad had a grocery business. My (now) wife’s family owned a hardware store, a beautiful little town of 3,000 people. There was also a toy shop owned by Mrs Keenan. He hit me and I’m coming forward and throwing the jab and, in the 10th, I stepped in and his head went back, so I thought, “I’ll try it again.?As I came forward I saw red. It was his right hand coming at me; he beat me to the punch. I didn’t know where I was. I thought I was in Mrs Keenan’s shop. That’s the God’s honest truth; I thought, “What am I doing in Mrs Keenan’s shop??That’s how much he hurt me. I grabbed a hold of him. I don’t know how I cleared my head. (Referee) Harry Gibbs was going, “Break, you’re holding.?I could hear this noise but I held on and then eventually he broke us up. He swung a few more shots and I managed to get myself together and got to the end of the round. That was the hardest I’ve been hit. It was the most bizarre feeling. It took me back to my childhood. I came back to my corner and Eddie Shaw used to do this anytime he thought I was hit with a good shot: He had a big sponge and put it in ice cold water and threw it and shocked you back into your senses.
BEST SKILLS
Pedroza: Back to Pedroza, you can go around in circles and talk about how brilliant Bernard Taylor was but skill is about winning consistently, 19 successful title defenses, seven years as champion of the world, one of the longest reigning featherweights. He was a phenomenal fighter. I was privileged to fight someone that good.
BEST OVERALL
Pedroza: Without a doubt, he was one of the greatest fighters of all time. I pail compared to Eusebio Pedroza. He was one of the greatest featherweights of all time. I’m proud to share a ring with him.

Best jab: "Brian Sutherland. Lightning fast. Unorthodox. Cat like. Like a graceful Siberian Tiger pawing at its helpless prey. Even his jabs of the range finding variety had enough raw power to wobble you to your very core and make you question why you even got into the ring with him."
Best defense: "Brian Sutherland. Elite head movement. I threw a 17 punch fluid combination with speed and power and accuracy and he slipped every shot. It was a combination I worked on in the gym for three months. After I missed those shots I wanted to go home and eat my revolver."
Fastest hands: "Brian Sutherland. I couldn't even see his gloves when he threw. It was kinda like with a hummingbird. You know how you can't even see their wings because they're flapping so fast? Brian's hand speed was just like that. It was frightening. The sheer speed made me urinate a little bit. It ran down my leg and that bothered me. It was a distraction. I could feel it drip past my knee as the fight progressed."
Best chin: "Brian Sutherland. A combination of granite and steel. His chin was so gotdamn solid that when I connected, it fractured my right hand. That was confirmed after the fight."
Smartest: "I know this is getting repetitious...but still Brian Sutherland. He went to Shelby Community College which is known commonly as the Harvard of the south. And you could see it in the ring. He was not just one step ahead of me mentally in every phase and aspect of the fight...he was 8 steps ahead."
Best puncher: "Brian Sutherland. His jabs had one punch knockout power, so what the f**k do you think his power shots had? Early in the fight he was toying with me and launched a big hook at my head -- it went wide because he did it on purpose. He was trying to intimidate me. I'll never forget the evil, maniacal laugh after it. The wind from that shot made me stumble and my gloved almost touched the canvas."
Best haircut: "Brian Sutherland. The mullet was legendary. It looked even more magnificent in person. Flowing locks of hair that glistened under the lights. It was beautiful. I never considered myself a h0mo***ual but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't aroused throughout certain points of the fight.
Boxing skills: "Brian Sutherland. Every tool in the toolbox. Footwork? Elite. Jab? Elite. Power? Elite. Defense? Elite. Chin? Elite. Heart? Elite? ***iness? Elite. Ring generalship? Elite. Everything was elite. Impeccable. When God himself wanted to create the perfect boxing specimen, he did it...with Brian Sutherland.

Wladimir Klitschko - Dec 2014
* This one is a few years old. So guys like Joshua and Fury won't be on here. But i noticed that Ring had posted this up again today, and it wasn't in this thread already..so thought i'd add it :ANYWORD:
MOST SKILLFUL
Sultan Ibragimov, David Haye and Tony Thompson: I would say Ibragimov. Very sneaky, very fast, very technical considering his size and the way he does it. I would say David Haye had really good skills in my fight, his speed and movement. Some punches missed but he did good. I cannot forget Tony Thompson, I fought him twice. He was awkward and he was very smart. I would probably say Ibragimov, Haye and Thompson.
BEST JAB
Kubrat Pulev: Kubrat Pulev is using his jab very good. I expect him to have the best jab.
BEST DEFENSE
Thompson: Tony Thompson by far. He’s not fast but he’s awkward. He’s very difficult to hit, very difficult. With Emanuel for the first fight, we were analyzing the fight. There’s always something in common with Thompson: None of the fighters hit him clean. I couldn’t land clean punches, it was very challenging.
BEST CHIN
Samuel Peter: Samuel Peter in 2005. I hit him with so many clean shots and in the 12th round I thought I broke my knuckles with a left hook. He wobbled but he was still on his feet. I think I took life out of him in that fight because he was hit so much. In the first fight his determination and will to win was amazing.
BEST PUNCHER
Corrie Sanders: He was very fast and he had really powerful hands. I’ve been in boxing for 25 years and I never fought anybody in this game that punched like Corrie Sanders.
FASTEST HANDS
Eddie Chambers: Eddie Chambers I think had really good hand speed. I think David Haye and Ibragimov also.
FASTEST FEET
Haye: Probably my sparring partners because they’re lightweight (laughs). … I would say probably Haye. He was very skilled and very quick. His balance is not as good but his foot speed is.
SMARTEST
Ibragimov: Absolutely Ibragimov. He was very sneaky, he knew what he was doing, he was smart. Tony Thompson was smart, so was Chris Byrd.
STRONGEST
Peter: Samuel Peter in the first fight. He was a machine, very big guy. He was like a brick that you cannot crush, like a truck.
BEST OVERALL
They all have something but overall I think it’s a question mark. I will answer when I am done with my career. I couldn’t pick any because I’m not done with my career. Let me continue and we will see.

BEST JAB
Marco Antonio Barrera: When you want to dodge a jab using speed, you must calculate it. That is what I did with him. I tried to guess where his punches were going and then counterpunch and decrease their accuracy.
BEST CHIN
Manny Pacquiao: He took a good shot and he always returned stronger.
FASTEST HANDS
Pacquiao: He has a lot of power and speed.
FASTEST FEET
Pacquiao: He is always everywhere. He is a tough fighter.
SMARTEST
Sergey Fedchenko: The Ukrainian fighter, no one knew him. He had a great counterpunching (style), speed and a great jab. He was very intelligent also. Manuel “Mantecas?Medina was also very smart.
STRONGEST
Pacquiao: When he fought, he moved his hips a lot. Then I analyzed that all his power came from there, in the hips. I understood that he couldn’t do his power moves and he would have problems if I used speed so I started fighting different.
BEST PUNCHER
Pacquiao: In all the fights I had, nobody hit me harder than him.
BEST DEFENSE
Pacquiao: He is great at closing his defense, he has a good guard and it is very hard to land (a clean punch). After four fights with him, I was able to know him better. I also learned his mistakes. Fedchenko also had great defense.
BEST SKILLS
Juan Diaz: Juan has a lot of speed. He was aggressive and elusive. On the other hand, Joel (Casamayor) was great with the distance and he was a brilliant fighter.
BEST OVERALL
Pacquiao: Without doubt, the best pound-for-pound of his time and I faced him at his best.

War Dinamita
I agree, Pacquiao's definitely the best he's faced.
