The thing that bums me out the most about this is that this had trilogy written all over it. I think May would have won the first fight in a fight that looked similar to the Cotto fight, but with more damage inflicted on both sides. This would have set up a perfect rematch, etc...
I'm 34 and my generation certainly saw some epic trilogies (Gatti-Ward, Holyfield-Bowe, Barrera-Morales, Pac-Marquez (IV), etc...). It just pisses me off when egos and other b.s. cloud rationality :/

SO much so that it went to a mediation to get it solved. I mean, Manny wanted a full 30 days with zero testing and Mayweather wanted 14 when they should have never been a cut off any way. Manny balked and walked and signed the Clottey fight days later.
I mean how many things are you gonna slurp up before you realise this is all hot air?

Martinez was not going to fight Cotto out of principle because he felt disrespected as the champion. Eventually he realised that he'd had to give in to a diva's demands.
Pacquaio maybe should have done the same. Although the fight wouldn't have happened anyway.
