Comments Thread For: This just in, Arum’s Mayweather tirades are getting old

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Bob Arum is better at promoting fights than I am at anything I’ve ever tried.

He’s got a track record that stretches farther than my 45 years, and his contractual relationships with guys like Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley, among others, seem to indicate that he’ll be relevant on the sport’s top shelf for just as long as he wants to be.

But for crying out loud, he’s got to get over this Mayweather thing.

I mean, I get it. They used to work together, now they don’t. He used to say Floyd was one of the best fighters he’d ever seen, but now he’s a coward focused only on money and remaining unbeaten.

It’s a lot like commentary that could be applied to any relationship when it veers from hot to cold.

What starts out as “She’s wonderful and attractive and I hang on her every word” quickly deteriorates to “I was never that into her in the first place, I just wanted to get in good with her sister.”

Still, after a while, those principals do move on to other things.

That doesn’t seem to be the case with Bob, though.

Wherever and whenever he gets a chance, there’s either a cleverly veiled or completely outspoken shot across the Mayweather bow – and it continued well into the night on Saturday at the MGM Grand, after Pacquiao and Bradley went another 12 entertaining rounds. [Click Here To Read More]

No, no! I say let him keep promoting May vs Maidana. If you think he's fuming now, wait 'til he sees the PPV revenue results. He's gonna eventually fall into a deep depression and have even deeper regrets about letting Floyd buy out his contract.

What makes you say that? Lyle can get any media credentials he wants. He's a long time veteran of the sport.

He was at the press conference.

blah blah blah..... I dont care about their stats figure. What Im interested is to see Floyd & Manny to fight in the ring. No body deserves a shot to fight Floyd except Manny. If Floyd really hates Arum, he should fight Manny & crash him to humiliate Arum & TR. In that case, TR has no longer Cashcow & Prizefighter. Forget about eveything in the past. What is important is the current negotiation.

Arum's tirades are getting old for sure, but this is nothing compared to "Pacquiao, you're next. I didn't say that! Don't put words in my mouth! Pacquiao, who?" Some writers just can't risk giving up that free buffet. Tsk tsk tsk.

Only problem with that is even Bob knows Pac is no match for Floyd right now and just wants to cash in on a huge payday before Manny declines even further.

Everyone in front of and behind the scenes knows it.

What has Pac proven? That he can still take a punch and not fall again?

Bradley came close to putting Pac down with a hard shot.
He just doesn't possess the KO and finishing power to do it.

Can Manny continue winning and racking up titles against tough comp, is the question.
