      Yes - he said Virgil wasn't giving him any good advice in the corner or giving him a sense of urgency, letting him know that he was losing early on etc. He also isnt active within the gym i.e. he doesn't really help physically enough... he pretty much is just psychological.

        The more exposure Virgil gets, the more he comes across as ridiculous. However, he is right. Freddie does not need to constantly talk **** about other trainers, especially if their fighters are not even fighting each other.

          Mayfield is not and was not trained by Virgil Hunter. He helped out as a corner man. But Karim has a full time trainer.

            I was never hyped up on Virgil but there has been a definite negative change in Freddy Roach's rhetoric.

              hunter should just stick with amateur boxing. his excessive clinching style is boring. just watch andre ward fight. khan can't fight, he used the same clinching style against peterson and almost got killed. roach is right.

The list goes on.

                  Virgil needs to stay in his lane, 'cause the only fighter he has of worth is Ward.
                  How would ward be good without virgil? He thought him since a kid. If some homeless guy was teaching him you think he'd still be 2 p4p. That's ******ed

                  And all the guys he gets suck anyway lol err. Khan was on a 2 fight losing streak with roach. Mayfield is just not good. Berto is war torn so is angulo. Can't turn shlt into sugar

                    You can call him a corner-man all you want, he was training Mayfield, it's as simple as that.

                    Mayfield has been training under the tutelage of Oakland***8217;s own Virgil Hunter for recent fights. But he called upon Ben Bautista ***8211; his longtime trainer and friend ***8211; to help out for a week when Hunter left camp due to contractual obligations with former unified junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan.

                    More at SFBay:
                    "Virgil and I have been working together since I was in the amateurs,***8221; Mayfield said. ***8220;He knows how to push me to bring out the best in my fighting style. ***8230; Virgil has some of the best fighters in the world working out at his gym so I'm getting the best sparring possible. Virgil has got me working on some new punches that I'll display against Dulorme.***8221;

                    He was his trainer for this camp, deal with it man.
