Bernard Hopkins vs Sergey Kovalev @ 175: Who wins?

There is a gulf in class with this one. Hopkins has seen fighters like Kovalev before and beaten them (young and hungry fighters that are supposed to beat him up) While Kovalev is used to smashing people around he hasn't been anywhere near Hopkins intelligence level.
With that said, it is easy for me to imagine Hopkins showing us why he is great and taking advantage of the huge gulf in class. Think Ali-Foreman, but not literally, the younger hungrier guy that is used to steamrolling opponents coming up short to the classier and wiser older man...I can easily imagine that.
However, I can also imagine Kovalvev being that little bit 'too much, too late' for B-Hop. This could very well be the one that is that step too far for him. But I dunno to be honest with you.

Make no mistake..I've nothing but respect for BHops achievements and longevity, and I wouldn't bet cash on this opinion..BHop ain't a guy you bet money against ..but - he's 49 years old...sooner or later time will catch up to him...quicker, slicker fighters Dawson and Taylor were able to take advantage even a few years ago. Beating Cloud (and Murat smh) don't really tell us much about what Hopkins has got left in the tank.
For me it's Kovalev and probably by TKO...FWIW I think Stevenson might also have enough strength and speed on his side for 49 YO BHop, though I'm less sure of this.
If Hopkins were to prove me wrong though, all I'd do is SMH in disbelief that this ATG can keep on getting it done. Guy already deserves a statue in Philly - the only question is how big to make it.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 03-28-2014, 01:03 PM.

Easy fight for Hopkins.
Y'all must've forgot! The Alien has built a legacy around dismantling scary punchers.
Kovalev is a better fighter than Pavlik AND Hopkin's is 6 years older. I like Hopkins. I don't want him fighting Kovalev because there is a real chance that Hopkins would get seriously hurt.
Now, 10 yrs ago Hopkins would win (IMHO). Now... well, power counts. Age counts. And, to restate things - Kovalev is much better than Pavlik, he's got better footwork, he's got better timing, shorter punches and hit hard. Damn hard.

Why do people forget Bernard getting beat by Taylor twice, or Chad? Thing is Nard has been hand picking his victims for years, guys who don't really box that well. That said it would not surprise me if Bernard beat Kovalev, but that has more to do with Kovalev not really been tested.

Hopkins is one of the best fighters of all time. Unless he has some very expensive bad habits I don't know about he must be a very rich man. I think he is nuts to risk the future health of his brain by fighting at 49. Damage he gets from hard blows to the head doesn't always show up right away and can show up later. He lost to Dawson about two years ago so I give him almost no chance to beat Kovalev who punches much harder than Dawson. I pick Kovalev to win by KO.
