When the first score was read I figured it would be a technical draw because while he made the fight closer in 10 and 11 he did fall apart in 12. 114-114 made the most sense from the guy that had Garcia ahead 77-75, the one guy was always going to have Garcia winning and the guy that should have had Herrera winning.

SO while you could make a case for draw or Garcia (even at 8-4 which would be giving Garcia all the close rounds but if you prefer his work that is possible and that is only 2 rounds off a draw) the route there is tough to explain.

I do think it was close though with a lot of close rounds plus boxing scoring is very deceptive.
I'm not arguing whether the fight was close.

But the range of reasonable scores to me was 114-114 to 116-112 for Herrera. 116-112 for Garcia is totally impossible no matter what your preference is as a judge. Its total incompetence.

4-0 Garcia after 4 is incompetent. Giving Garcia 3 of the last 4 rounds is incompetent. That's not the story of the fight. Herrera closed the show after 8 close competitive rounds. If you had Herrera up 77-75 like the one judge did, there is no way in you could have possibly arrived at a draw.

Even with the judges scores after 8, the fight should have been a majority draw. Herrera won rounds 9 and 12 clearly and I felt he won round 10 although not as convincingly. 11 was a clear indisputable Garcia round.

Beautifully stated, Benny. We fans go on about our business, while these men who break their backs for years take a blow to their livelihoods, and therefore their lives. It's the difference between making 30k in a fight, or making upwards of 500k. I don't think there are too many dudes on this site that would consider that small potatoes.

But I 100% agree the official judges cards were wayyyyy too wide. I couldn't possibly give more then 6 rounds to Danny.
No way Garcia won that first round. No way

After the fight Herrera thought he did enough to win while Garcia had the look of a loser on his face....that's all anyone needs to see to know who really won the fight.

You could go as far as 8-4 Garcia, the close rounds exist in the fight to make that happen. It would not be an easy case to make and I doubt I could convert anyone but that is basically best case scenario for Garcia in that fight. Keep in mind I just think a case could be made for that score not that I scored it like that because I didn't score it, but I scored enough fights to know it was tough to score outside like 11 and 12 which were the most obvious to me.

I agree with the rest more or less (I thought Garcia was coming on in 10 but there were a lot of close rounds and round 10 was not that different from the rest of the fight) how they get there matters and those two sections are tough to explain. Like I said when I heard the scores I immediately though technical draw until Lennon announced the last 2 score together and that was based pretty much on the last 4 rounds and the scores from the first 8.

Someone needs to post a gif of Garcia's mom after the fight.

That's all you need to know

Hell, even when Garcia wasn't landing on Herrera, the crowd went crazy like he was doing something.

Why do you think the crowd was quiet 75% of the fight? Because Herrera was busting his ass
