Andre Ward has tested his skills in his short career. But from what few fights we've seen the authors of the mainstream and internet media have usually described Andre Ward as some kind of technical wizard and "pound for pound" great. While Andre's competition has been better than Genady's, his "stardom" is manufactured and contrived because his personality and boxing methods are equally dull whereas Genady has almost always won in spectacular fashion.

GGG can fight "taxi drivers" or "tomato cans", but still there will be more people who turn on their TVs to see his fights. Maybe it's sad, maybe it's wrong, but its true.

GGG was under a German promoter whose biggest star was Felix Sturm. For years GGG couldn't get fights he wanted and had to fight on undercards and his fights weren't even televised. I can say his career really started when he signed with K2 (November 2011).
I remember Jim Lampley saying "a star is born in San Antonio" after Pac beat up Barrera....Max and Jim were saying the same **** when Swift caught Khan....when Big Pimpin layed Dawson out with a superman pimp slap, guess what?!?....they said the same ****....we have a new star!!!

No one's done it except legendary Bernard Hopkins.

Only a black male boxer is able to do it.

Ward, Floyd, Rigo and Lara nowadays.

He was undisputed champ after he beat Kessler.

Did I call GGG a star? You said he didn't beat a worthy opponent = he's not a star. Resumes don't make stars. Ward fought bests in his weight class, but no one would call him a star. So did Rigondeaux and he can't even get a TV date. Being a star has nothing to do with fighting the best (Chavez Jr says hello). But with GGG's entertaining style he has better chance to become a star even if he fights "bums". And a lot of people are willing to watch his fights because of his style, not because of his resume (his fight vs Stevens did the 3rd highest rating and many of you called Stevens a bum and gave him only a puncher's chance, Chavez Jr vs Vera did the 2nd highest and they are not the bests at 168 and many of you call Chavez a bum).

I'm sure if GGG and Ward had to fight the same opponent a fight vs GGG would get better ratings. So if we compare GGG and Ward, GGG is more popular.

I am one of Gennady's biggest fans BUT Ward has a good point. If GGG's team is going to boast that they will fight anyone from 154-175 then they damn well should back it up or not say it at all. I still believe that Gennady would be the first to stop Ward, but it remains to be seen.

Calzaghe was undisputed super middleweight champ.
If that's the way you choose to exist in your boxing world, so be it. But to me, its a lil ridiculous considering how the ABC groupos unjustly strip titles nowadays. Not only that, but there are some pretty crappy ABC champs out there. Take the current lineal middleweight title. After KO'n DLH, Bernard Hopkins held all four ABC belts. Through the lineage of that title, before the Martinez-Chavez Jr fight, that lineal title that at one time held all four belts, had been reduced to ZERO ABC belts. I don't see why Martinez's status as champ should be minimized because corrupt ABC groups are unjustly stripping titles. Especially when as a fight fan I know he's the real champ. That just doesn't make sense to me. But to each his own.
