Andre Ward has tested his skills in his short career. But from what few fights we've seen the authors of the mainstream and internet media have usually described Andre Ward as some kind of technical wizard and "pound for pound" great. While Andre's competition has been better than Genady's, his "stardom" is manufactured and contrived because his personality and boxing methods are equally dull whereas Genady has almost always won in spectacular fashion.

GGG can fight "taxi drivers" or "tomato cans", but still there will be more people who turn on their TVs to see his fights. Maybe it's sad, maybe it's wrong, but its true.
GGG was under a German promoter whose biggest star was Felix Sturm. For years GGG couldn't get fights he wanted and had to fight on undercards and his fights weren't even televised. I can say his career really started when he signed with K2 (November 2011).

I'm sure if GGG and Ward had to fight the same opponent a fight vs GGG would get better ratings. So if we compare GGG and Ward, GGG is more popular.

I am one of Gennady's biggest fans BUT Ward has a good point. If GGG's team is going to boast that they will fight anyone from 154-175 then they damn well should back it up or not say it at all. I still believe that Gennady would be the first to stop Ward, but it remains to be seen.
