One thing you can't take from Ortiz is the fact that he comes to fight. One year of inactivity after breaking his jaw and the guy jumps on his opponent from the opening bell. I can respect him for that.

Ortiz seems to have a refreshingly realistic and pragmatic attitude about his career -- he'll always be an exciting action fighter, win lose or draw -- obviously has somewhat of a glass jaw and his ring intelligence is questionable but he can still make a nice living in the sport if he decides to go on with it

Yes, he gets credit for jumping in the ring with a tough guy after a long layoff and an injured jaw. But I'm not sure that puts Ortiz in a special place. Prior to the fight he had been discrediting Maidana and talking trash about Canelo. I'm trying really hard to say something positive about Ortiz but it's really difficult when he's a dirty fighter, a quitter, a trash talker, a cornball, and in all likelihood a liar (probably made up that story about his past). This guy just has mental issues. He's done ok in life though. Not a great fighter. Never was.
And please don't make excuses for him. Ortiz didn't get caught. He got beat. He was fighting reckless and dumb (coming out way too aggressive). A tough veteran like Collazo knows how to take advantage of that. It was only a matter of time. If LC didn't take him out in rd 2 it would've happened later.

I think of it like this
If judah was winning 10 rounds of a fight and got smashed in the 11th but survived. He would muster enough heart to come out in the 12th knowing he has the fight won up to that point. Cant say the same for ortizLast edited by Shogunofharlem1; 01-31-2014, 05:18 PM.

Yeah, he put his heart out there, just like the other 3 times he quit in fights. Make it 4 now.
No big deal? Right, until it comes time to cut the contract for your next fight and you're fighting for table scraps.
Just retire. Go into modeling or something.
