He was larger, but much slower and less active. I don't think he was very good. Soon after the Whitaker fight, he was KOd by the french Boudouani and was not relevant anymore.

But my main point is that it is misleading to keep regarding Maidana as an average fighter by downgrading Broner. I read too frequently in the fórums this two statements: a) Broner lost to Maidana, then he is not that good; b) If Broner beats Maidana in a rematch, he is again in route to stardom. I asume Chimo will have to destroy another top WW to get the recognition he deserves.

Jones is speaking as an experienced fighter who was moved carefully as a young guy and he understands that smart management and promotional thinking comes before a young fighters big mouth that has NO experience in moving a fighter to different levels when their ready.
Its the same as listening to fans who want to see a fight but really don't know what their talking about because they've never worked in the business.
Sometimes fans and fighters need a forum to "talk ****" on and then the next day its in space with the rest of the crap!
He was moved to soon and it was proven so. Winning over Paulie should have told him he needs more time training at 147 then fighting at 140 for a full year and acclimating himself to the new weight! Just because you can hold the weight doesn't mean you can fight at it. His work rate needs to come up 60% and he must start stepping around guys. He fought well as an amatuer and he knows how to move and after the lesson he just recieved we'll see if he's a good student or judst another "rock head"!

He was pretty good I'd say. Looked good against Winky Wright and had a long reign albeit pretty underwhelming one.

Regarldess, point being the example not a good comparison to a Maidana fight because he's much larger.

I respect your opinion, but even in the same context I do. Look at the last paragraph in the article linked. Chino says: "(Mayweather) is not invincible. He has been respected too much. Canelo Alvarez punches hard and could have KOd him, but respected him too much and lost by a wide margin, because he was not active and Mayweather did his job. You have to put a lot of pressure on Mayweather, in a similar way I did against Broner and a bit more, don't respect him and to be well trained".

            I don't understand the connection.

Maidana's a big guy but he's no Jr MW.

All he's saying there is Canelo should have took the fight to Mayweather more and that's what he would do.

No Roy, Broner didn't fight Maidana too soon.. More like he started fighting back too late. You simply cannot "feel out" a Bull charging swinging Maidana for 2 rounds without throwing anything really threatening in return to keep him modest.

Broner got outclassed, out worked, and had less heart. No excuses, he was the lesser fighter that night, and would be in a rematch.
