If you watch the first round there are a few times Shane jabs to the body with nothing behind it. So early in the second round he feints a jab to the body and this time there is a solid right behind it, and it lands at a time Floyd is flat footed...Great shotOriginally posted by megas30 View Post^^^^He trapped him with the low jab, and followed with a fast right upstairs. The fact that Mayweather would use his left to push the jab down and usually leaves his left really low gave Shane that opportunity. Note well, after that, Mayweather started using the high guard.
That was the main gameplan of Shane/Nazzim. Floyd at that time had a tendency to drop both his hands to block the jab to the body when in the shell defense. Leaving his head wide open. Jab to the body and then overhand right up top right away was the plan.
Richardson said Shane gotta knock Floyd out when this opportunity presents itself. And that this window of opportunity will close as quickly as it opened -- because Richardson is well aware that Floyd has a super high boxing I.Q. and would see this plan and adjust right away. Roger Mayweather didn't even catch it, only Floyd did.
If you look at Round 3, Shane tries the jab to the body again to try and repeat Round 2. But this time, as soon as Floyd sees Shane trying to jab to the body, he launches a fast three punch combination with no hesitation! While in the corner after Round 2, everyone was fixated with Floyd being 'embarrassed', meanwhile he was sitting there dissecting what just happened, came up with a solution, and the rest is history.
Shane later on in Round 3, tries one more time, and sees Floyd returning fire as soon as the jab to the body is coming, forcing him to back away in retreat and abandon the jab to the body. This is why at the end of the fight, Shane says FLOYD ADJUSTED. Floyd took away his one trick game plan, and after that he had to fight Floyd skill for skill, and got beat up. Watch Rounds 2 and 3 in slow motion, and it's a lot easier to see.Last edited by radioraheem; 12-30-2013, 05:32 PM.

Also watch Round 1, and you'll see Shane trying the jab to the body setup. There was a moment where he nearly caught Floyd with it in that round, but he missed.

It was a great combination thrown by a great fighter that still had something left.
Jab to the body, right hand to the head. Great combination.
What makes it skillful isn't the combination itself, but the timing of how it was thrown. Mosley threw it like a 1-2 at 16th note speed. A lot of guys dip down a little to throw the jab to the body and it wouldn't have worked here as it would have slowed down the 2's speed and angle.
Fighters aren't setting up shots like that anymore. Andre Ward throws similar combinations e.g. straight right hand to the body, left hook to the head. Its how old school trainers taught. Jab to the body, left hook head. Old school.
