I don't think he was. Which is wild when we think of how the landscape would be different now if here were in it. Not saying he'd beat Ward, just saying the pecking order would probably be different now.

read the fifth line from the article i posted on the previous page it states it was his choice to stay out implying he was invited. Later on it states Showtime was grooming Bute for a while showing his fites but he made a last minute decision to jump to HBO when the tournament was in the works

Pascal is probably going to take the Froch approach and try to overwhelm Bute with constant pressure. Although if Bute can handle it I see Pascal gassing out in the second half of the fight.

Pascal wil pas thru Bute via UD or TKO in tha first half
then its gon be Adonis-Pascal, Adonis by KO/TKO
        and finaly... Stevenson-Kovalev!

afterwards Andre Ward will move up fighting Stevenson-Kovalev winner

        that's how i see the ****

When I first heard about this fight being made, my first pick to win this fight was Bute. I saw a few of his previous fights and I saw how he has an awkward kind of style and he goes down to the body very well. I knew that he got stopped in his fight vs Froch and I knew he was hurt bad in his first outing against that one bum, but I overlooked that.

After reading posters comments on the match up, I have to agree with those saying Pascal wins. Sounds like their arguments and reasons for saying Pascal wins are a lot more logical than the pro Bute arguments. Then again, a lot of times there is no logic to be found in boxing.

So after thinking about it for awhile, I'm going with a Pascal victory.

As a Canadian boy who's followed both of their careers here is a little breakdown of how I see this fight.

The key factor in this fight is Bute's chin or lack thereof. The Froch loss is a hard one to recover from and you will be hard pressed to find a fighter that has come back to 100% and showed no effects of that sort of beating.

Bute's best chance in this fight is going for an early stoppage and catching Pascal cold early. Bute is the better boxer but not by much, Pascal has very fast and strong hands and he can box well.

What makes this fight interesting is that neither have the best chin, although Pascals is better and his recovery ability is MUCH better than Bute whom cannot recover from a shot for the life of him. For this reason, Bute will likely try and box. I don't see him able to outbox a fast, strong and athletic fighter like Pascal for 12 full rounds as I expect that sometime within the 36 minutes of fighting, Pascal will land flush and either stop Lucien, or hurt him bad enough to keep him cautious and on the defensive for the rest of the fight.

Bute has been protected while Pascal has been willing to fight the bigger names and more legit competition, which gives him the edge in a fight between two Good but not above average fighters. Lastly, Pascal has an aggressive streak and will take the fight to Bute, who's best chance is to try and outbox Pascal and let him gas himself out as he has been known to do in the past.

My pick: Jean Pascal by late stoppage (8 - 10th round) due to Bute being damaged goods and not being able to take his shots all night. Pascal WILL hit Bute and I do not see Bute standing up to Pascal's power which is legitimate.

Easy work for Pascal. 1 trick pony was exposed.

What about Bute's KO power? Hasn't he got a lethal left hand?

Actually just reading had surgery on his left hand...

Heart says Bute, head says Pascal.

I like him in the fight too but Pascal doesn't stop too many fighters and tends to fade late.

And what happened in the rematch? Everyone uses the Andrade fight as an example of how Bute got "exposed", but they probably never even watched the whole fight. Bute literally won like every single round in that fight. Maybe you could give Andrade a couple rounds, but Bute was in full control until he gassed out at the end and almost got KOed in the last round.

The rematch was even more lop-sided when he annihilated Andrade in 4 rounds.

His only loss came to Carl Froch, and that was a very bad fight for him cause he got hurt early and just could not recover. He did well in rounds 1 and 2, but then got badly hurt in the 3rd, lost his legs and lost next 2 rounds. As I've said his recovery skills are very poor. So if Pascal can catch him and hurt him early he will have a great chance to win.
